Book Description

A killer is loose who has a taste for human blood. Cole presses harder into the investigation, but the body count climbs. He has personal reasons for detesting the press, so sparks fly when Laurie hounds him for a story. Fate forces them to join forces, neither one anticipating the attraction that ensues. But just as Cole thinks he is close to finding all the answers, both personal and professional, Laurie disappears.

Review: Deadly Obsession is a taut, gripping, fast-paced story of murder and madness. The tension mounts page after page, until the chilling and terrifying conclusion. The plot flows seamlessly and leaves the reader guessing as to who, and what the killer is until the very end. The characters are well defined and realistic, from the bitter, angry homicide detective to the chilling portrayal of a soul lost to madness. The dialogue is crisp, and direct, moving the story forward smoothly. While this is a suspense novel, there is also the underlying romance between Laurie and Cole, which is done so well, it blends into the main story flawlessly. Deadly Obsession is an intense story best read with all the lights on. I highly recommend this well-written novel to those who enjoy a murder mystery with enough suspense to keep them on the edge of their seat.

1.0 out of 5 stars I Don't Get It June 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I don't understand all the 5 star reviews. I really wanted to like this book - I kept trying and trying until finally finished, but all it left me with was a feeling of 'thank heavens that's over'. The plot starts out with promise but somewhere along the long becomes almost left by the wayside - like it's getting in the way of the burgeoning relationship of Detective Cole Kincaid and Reporter Laurie. Which would be great if either of those characters were remotely interesting or likable. They're not. We never really know much about them to learn to like them. Even Cole's past is heaped on us in an apparent effort to give him some 'character' but it doesn't work for me. Just seems forced. For me, no character in this book was overly interesting or likable. The book wasn't the worst I've ever read but unless you're stuck with nothing left to read, I wouldn't recomment it. Sad because I really like to support my home state authors.

3.0 out of 5 stars I think I read a different book. June 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I tried to like this book, I really did!I was almost embarrassed to even write a review after all the great ones. Maybe it was me but I thought the writing was disjointed and all over the place. In the beginning of this book right after the second murder, she wrote that they could not tell if there were bite marks around the wound due to the condition of the body; about 19% into the book, the author wrote that the only thing they had for evidence or found similar was the bite marks around the neck of the 2 victims? I thought that she also stated or implied certain things over and over. One example is how beautiful and sexy both the main characters were... how sexy he found her. Some chapters weren't too bad and I would think, maybe this will get better, then the next chapter would be awful. Almost like the book was written by two different people. I skipped chapters because I didn't really care about the characters or what happened. I gave this book three stars because I felt bad about disliking it. This is just my opinion.
Just an FYI, I am now reading a fantastic classic: "A Kiss Before Dying" by Ira Levin.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sorry to say October 18, 2012
By Kelly
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Wow - I read this book based upon the rave reviews it was given. I did read the whole book but it was difficult. The characters were hard to like and the dialog seemed forced. It seems that the same lines were used over and over. Cole's boss for instance continually refered to the murder as a "piece of crap." Who says that? Or during dialog I can't begin to tell you how many sentences start with the word "Hell." The story line was hard to believe and had many inconsistancies. Sorry but for me this book didn't work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps your attention for hours! May 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was one of those great surprises in life. I had not read this author before, but I will certainly be looking for more from her. I found myself taking my Kindle to work just to sneak in a few more pages! A great mix of romance and suspense. Throw in a vampiric serial killer, tragic side-kick, two strong, independent leads with solid supporting cast, and you've got a story that will keep you trying to solve the mystery even in your sleep. Definitely a book to get you through a rainy weekend. Or, even a sunny one!

1.0 out of 5 stars Cliche and sexist September 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The characters in this story fall into stereotyped rolls with predictable actions. The male characters (including the romantic lead) are completely sexist. The female lead, an educated and independent woman, is portrayed as highly emotional and judgmental. At times the dialog is offensive. The author seems to have little respect for the female gender.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful Thriller July 26, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
DEADLY OBSESSION by Pat Rasey is a taut, suspenseful story that will leave you totally satisfied, yet wanting more.

Cole Kincaid is investigating a series of bizarre murders when he meets Laurie, a novice reporter assigned to the case. The sparks fly between them at first sight; yet Cole has a dark secret in his past that prevents him from launching into a romance with Laurie. As the killer's taste for blood grows, Cole and Laurie fight their growing attraction while trying to get one step ahead of the killer.

Well written and absorbing, Rasey shows she has full command of the story's various threads. Every time you think the suspense can't continue to grow, she ratchets it up another step. If you're looking for a book that will keep you up all night, check out DEADLY OBSESSION.

I enjoyed this book. It was a quick read, however I wasn't as compelled to get the next book as I thought I'd be. Good book, it just didn't jump at me like some others have.
