When an Oscar-winning movie star meets a department-store photographer...

Movie star Nic Lamoureux appears to have a playboy's perfect life. But it's a part he plays, an act designed to conceal a dark secret he carries on his shoulders. His empty days and nights are a meaningless blur until he meets the woman who fulfills all his dreams. She and her son are the family he's always wanted--if she can forgive a horrible mistake from his past.

A Hollywood dream...

Lauren James, a widowed single mother, earns barely enough money to support herself and her son. When she wins a photography contest and meets Nic, the man who stars in all her fantasies, her dreams, both professional and personal, are on the verge of becoming real. The attraction between Lauren and Nic is instant--and mutual. Their chemistry burns out of control during a photo shoot that could put Lauren on the fast track to a lucrative career.

Becomes a Hollywood nightmare

But an ill-advised kiss makes front-page news, and the lurid headlines threaten everything Nic and Lauren have hoped for. Before they know what's happening, their relationship is further rocked by an obsessed and cunning stalker who'll stop at nothing--not even murder--to have Nic to herself. When Nic falls for Lauren, the stalker zeroes in on her as the competition.

And the competition must be eliminated.

Excerpt:

Lauren rolled her eyes. "Fine. Do it."

Nic bent down and brushed his lips against hers. For the first few seconds, she didn't kiss him back, but she didn't push him away, either. Then, on a sigh, she leaned into him and her arms locked around his neck. His tongue darted out to taste her bottom lip. Mmm... cherry--his new favorite flavor. When her mouth opened, he didn't hesitate.

He dove in. And drowned.

He'd meant this to be a quick kiss, only now he just couldn't stop. His lips traced a path to her throat. Cupping her bottom with his hands, he lifted her up, grinding against her. She moaned. It was a beautiful sound, one he definitely wanted to hear again.

A loud noise pierced the fog of his lust. He raised his head from where he'd been nuzzling Lauren's apple-scented neck to tell whoever it was to fuck off, but as the sexual haze cleared, he swallowed the words. The paparazzi had gathered around, applauding and calling out crude encouragements. Some snapped photos while others rolled film. Shit. He'd pay for this fuck-up and so would she.

About the Author

I'm fascinated by the mysteries of human psychology--twisted secrets, deep-seated beliefs, out-of-control desires. Add in high-stakes scenarios and real-world villains, and you have a story worth writing, and reading.

The heroes and heroines of my Deadly Vices series, beginning with Deadly Obsession, are pitted against each other by their radically opposing life experiences. By overcoming their differences and finding common ground, they triumph over their enemies and find true happiness in each other's arms.

Today I live in the Pacific Northwest, thriving on the mix of cultures, languages, religions and ideologies. When I'm not writing, I'm people-watching, imagining entire life stories, and inventing all sorts of danger for the unsuspecting heroes and heroines who cross my path.

5.0 out of 5 stars Riveting storyline January 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Hot Hollywood playboy, Nic Lamoureux works hard to keep up his image as Nic the Lover for his adoring fans. What they don't know is the man is alone and closed off from those that he loves due to his fame, his guilt and shame for acts in his youth and the stalker who threatens harm to any woman that gets close to him. Nic Lamoureux is a complex man who doesn't trust many people and spends the majority of the time being someone he's not. That changes when he meet the photographer who won a contest to conduct a photo shoot with Nic. Suddenly, he finds the one person that makes him feel complete and able to be the true Nic Lamoureux.

Lauren James is hoping the photo shoot with Nic Lamoureux will help open doors for her and advance her photography career. But she has a secret, she's had a crush on her photo subject since they were in high school together in Chicago. She hopes her crush doesn't show, but she can't help but be drawn to the man. Soon Nic is sweeping into her life and Lauren finds herself falling for this adult version of the boy she loved and the object of Nic's stalker who's determined to get her out of the picture.

I loved Nic and Lauren. They were absolutely hot together and clearly the other half of each other. Both of them had emotional baggage they brought into their relationship that, at time, threatened what was developing between them. How either of them reacted to that baggage could have had the story and their likeability as a couple going either way, but Kristine Cayne gave us some emotionally charged scenes as they dealt with each issue.

The stalker storyline was seriously creepy and kept me just as entertained as the romance between Nic and Lauren.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Romantic Suspense! January 25, 2012
By Tammy
Format:Kindle Edition
Instead of summarizing this book again, I'll tell you what makes it a great read!
1. Deadly Obsession has an abundance of amazing characters. The main characters Nic and Lauren both have a lot going on in their lives. Lauren lost her husband due to the war, had to work hard to support her son, and she has "body issues" just like the rest of us. Nic seems to be this "playboy" but we learn that he actually is a good man carrying around a lot of unnecessary baggage, as well as dealing with a psycho-stalker. Kaden and Remi are hilarious, Lauren's son-Jason is adorable, and the list goes on.
2. The romance between Lauren and Nic was believable (and hot!). Sometimes in cases of "instant attraction" or when one person is a celebrity I feel the need to say "BS, their relationship would never work or it would never happen that way!" Not the case here!
3. Loved the parts with Nic's stalker, I was so eager to find out who the stalker was!
4. I love when the author provides the reader with enough clues to figure out who the killer is-Ms. Cayne did this!!

If you enjoy romantic suspense, I'd recommend this book. Remi's book will be published soon. But I'm hoping for a book with Rachel, Nic's sister!!

Nic and Lauren are hot together. However, if they're not smart, they could end up dead together!

This was a great read. Reading the story from different points of view added to the interest. I've read a lot of books where I've asked myself what a certain character was thinking. In this case, I didn't need to do that because the writer expressed the feelings of each of the main characters.

The writing and editing were both very well done. I look forward to reading more by this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Average Stalker Theme! March 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
My Opinion:

The first thought that comes to mind someone asks me "What did you think of Deadly Obsession?" is HOT! HOT! HOT! I absolutely loved this book and I am a now a die-hard Nic Lamoureux fan and I am not ashamed to admit he will probably be starring in a few inappropriate dreams, as well.

I think the thing that caught my eye the most is the uniqueness of the plot. I mean, most stalker themed books we read are centered on male stalkers following the hot female celebrity or the pretty girl next door. As a matter of fact, I just finished Got Game? by Stephanie Doyle and it's exactly like I described. Now, there is nothing wrong with that idea (I loved it, actually), but here, in Deadly Obsession, we have a female stalker and a male celebrity (okay, I have to say it: a HOT male celebrity). I just enjoyed the originality. The book as a whole was fantastic, not just Nic (although he was especially yummy).

Ms. Cayne is very creative. I never would have been able to come up with a cmplex plot such as Deadly Obsession has. The irony (Nic falls for photographer and has no idea the photographer is the same photographer he had a crush on in high school) is awesome and very entertaining. I was amazed with this book from the very beginning (You go Ms. Cayne!).

The searing love scenes almost set my kindle on fire! The author uses very stimulating description words to make a fabulous love scene! They were spectacular and each one was completely different from the next, which I appreciate. Don't you just hate when the love scenes are boring? I sure do!

The humor in a lot of the dialogue keeps a reader (especially me) entertained while we get to know the characters (BTW-Vivian is a horrible woman, all throughout the novel I wanted to slap her).
