More About the Author

Ruby Vines was born and raised in the South. She lives with her hunky husband and three children. She loves to cook and try new recipes when her husband isn't grilling delicious steaks and fish on the grill. She rarely enjoys an evening without a glass of red wine and a great book to curl up with in bed. She enjoys all four seasons but fall is her favorite, enjoying long walks with crisp leaves to crunch and smoke fires to smell. In the summer she loves to lounge on the beach and read while her kids splash in the lake and in the winter she stays close to the fire where she writes barefoot, toasting her toes near the flames while she sips hazelnut coffee with her Ragdoll Siamese kitty curled up on the sofa next to her. Deadly R&R was written when she was only 25 years old and edited 16 years later after sitting in a closet collecting dust. My Little Texas Tornado was written after surviving a deadly tornado by being thrown into a ditch by her sexy next-door-neighbor who is now her hot husband. Ruby also writes paranormal, fantasy, time-travel and vintage romance under the pen name Alisha Paige. You can visit her at www.alishapaige.com.

In her debut ebook, Ms. Vines mixes mystery and intrigue with a little romance. Shay Reynolds has it all...looks, money, talent and a handsome, successful fiancé. Everything changed for Shay in an instant when her fiancé dies in an accident. Shay finds that her fiancé had secrets and that leads to questions about the `accident' that took his life. In deep despair Shay turn to her chauffer, Tommy Smith for comfort and friendship. She hires his father's detective agency to investigate her fiancés death. Things take a horrible turn for the worse when it looks like the only person Shay trusts, besides her father, may be the one behind a total of 3 deaths in her life. Could Tommy have killed 3 people in order to be close to Shay? The evidence seems to point in that direction.

This is a sexy novel of mystery and suspense. The story proceeds at break neck speed only slowing for delicious romantic interludes and picks up again with unexpected twists and turns keeping the reader glued to the story.

This book has everything you want and then some! I loved the twists and turns of the book. She wrote it so well I could not wait to finish it to see what happens, but I also look forward to rereading it again and telling all my friends about this wonderful book.

I assume the other reviewers are friends of the author. While I didn't hate the book - in fact I quite enjoyed the first half - the story was very disjointed and to be honest there were some silly bits. It was like the author couldn't decide if it was to be romance, erotic, mystery, thriller or what?! And unfortunately it can't be them all and that's where it fell over. I don't want to give away plot so lets just say there were some "twists" that literally came out of nowhere so it was like she decided on a whim what would happen without building to it through the story or it making sense. And the ending was pretty lame. Sorry but I'm glad I got this one for free and won't be buying any more of her books.

Deadly R&R started out promising but the characters took a slow downward dive into being annoying. The plot started out like it contained a really good mystery but would take a backseat repeatedly to things that did not enhance the plot. Made me feel as if I were reading a contemporary romance about a nice girl without any convictions and who relies too much on daddy.

I agree with another reviewer that the book lacked some focus. The writer did not do a good job with balancing the mystery and the romance. So both for me were rather lackluster. The romance felt more like puppy love. The characters lacked focus too. They started out strong and independent but then became weak and ineffectual. There were some parts were I desperately wished she would grow a spine and not rely on others. Shay and Tommy never seemed to progress with the book.

For the first quarter of this book I was really into it and looking forward to the mystery. By midway point I was basically wondering where was all the mystery-got kind of dull. By 75% of the story I just did not care what happened to the characters and started to skim the book to say I finished. Maybe not a bad book for others but unfortunately I did not care for it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It does jump around but nevertheless I loved it. It all comes together at the end. Tommy and Shay story is full of intense plots, mystery and it was hot. Enjoyed it!
