More About the Author

Margaret has been writing for over 35 years. She started writing in the late 1970s because she wanted to see if she could put a whole story down on paper. That book is still in the drawer and will never see the light of day. But she was able to finish a book, which was her goal.

She decided after that to get some help, and joined a writers' roundtable where she met once a week with some fellow writers who went over each other's work. She sold her first book in the early 1980s and has been selling ever since. She loves to tell a story. When she was a little girl she made up stories while playing with her dolls. On long trips with her family she would weave a story about the surrounding countryside. From those early beginnings grew a love of entertaining people with a story. She has sold nearly 5 million books worldwide with over 90 books.

When she went away to college, she met her husband, Mike, to whom she has been married for over 40 years. He is her support and her best friend. She has always felt she was the luckiest woman the day she bumped into him on campus.

When they married, they moved to Tulsa, where she finished her degree in special education and began teaching. She loved teaching and working with students with special needs. They helped her remember what is important in life. She also participated in the Special Olympics as a coach with her students and has attended the State Games in May for years. Recently she retired from teaching to write full-time.

Besides teaching and writing, she is also a mother of one. Her son, Shaun, loves animals and there have been times they could have their own zoo at the house. The most interesting pet Shaun had is a leopard tortoise, which could outlive him. She has joked that his children will be inheriting a tortoise. He is married with four daughters.

When she isn't working, she loves to read, travel, and go to lunch and a movie with a friend. She has been to many countries in the world and loves to meet new people. Her favorite place is Tahiti -- Bora Bora. It is as beautiful as all the pictures portray it.

In her travels she has found herself in some interesting situations. Once, in London, she got caught in the middle of a protest that later turned into a riot over poll taxes. In the rain forest of Costa Rica, she was covered from head to toe in mud and ruined a perfectly good outfit. She should have remembered it was going to be wet since it was called a rain forest. In Rio, she and a friend were left with no means to get back to the hotel on the other side of the city. Neither Margaret nor her companion spoke Portuguese and there wasn't a cab in sight. Thankfully one finally pulled up to the curb at the museum because she couldn't see herself hiking across Rio to get back to the hotel at night.

Bella Isla - Caribbean

Businessman Slade Calvert is minding his own business in a bar when Ellie Winters sits down and starts talking up a storm, all but propositioning him. Little does he know Ellie is on the run. She's a governess, and her agency has sent her to work for a local crime lord, unbeknown to her. One night Ellie accidentally overhears her boss's plans to launch a revolution, she's discovered and subsequently imprisoned, but manages to escape.

The Revolution happens before either can get off the island, and now they are running together. Slade thinks it's his fault Ellie is in the middle of this, because of his government contracts, and Ellie believes they are after her, because of what she knows, but she's afraid to trust Slade enough to tell him the truth.

Ellie had me laughing from the get-go, because there were no governors on her thoughts. She talks incessantly when nervous, and the author did a great job of showing the progression as Ellie became comfortable around Slade and she settled down. Ellie remains upbeat and instills some dry humor under some pretty rough circumstances, especially for a girly-girl city dweller.

Excerpt: "Under the circumstances, I'm fine. Of course, it can't be more than ten o'clock in the morning and I've already been strip-searched, held prisoner, shot at, and in a plane crash. Not to mention falling from a tree and nearly being crushed to death. I would have felt a little better if I'd had time this morning to put on some makeup and eaten a good breakfast. Otherwise, what could be wrong?" A humorous twinkle sparkled in his eyes as he lifted a hand and brushed her hair from her cheek.

Deadly Race is a charming, sweet, and sometimes humorous, romantic-suspense.

Ellie Winters is a governess for a wealthy man on Bella Isla in the Caribbean. One night she overhears her boss talk of a revolution he's involved in and he locks her away. Realizing she's in danger, she escapes and flees to the village to see if she can find someone to help her. With two goons on her tale she slips into a place where she might find help. There she finds Slade Calvert. She's not sure if she can trust him but he's a fellow American and with any luck, her ticket out. The revolution begins sooner then expected and they run for their lives, together, on an unforgettable adventure.

I've got to tell you, this was a fast and extremely FUN read! It takes you on an adventure that reminded me a little of Indiana Jones. Ellie was such a refreshing character. So honest and just plain funny. She made me laugh a lot throughout the story. Slade was a great leading man. Strong and tough yet caring. He reminded me a little of MacGyver. From beginning to end the story held me captive with what would happen next. This is not billed as 'Christian Fiction' but it is a clean read. It's got lots of romantic tension and there are times when the characters ideas sway toward the forbidden but nothing that's unrealistic and certainly nothing beyond what I would call 'edgy'. It's just pure enjoyment! If you're looking for something to take you away, forget Calgon, pick-up Deadly Race. It's guaranteed to leave you breathless!

This book has it all. Adventure, excitement, suspense, sexual tension, and most of all, love. The settings were beautiful and perfectly described. I felt as if I were on the island with them, every step of the way. I was chased, shot at, survived a plane crash and finally ended up in a tropical rain forest. I ate coconut, slathered myself with mud, climbed a mountain, fell onto a ledge, and through all of this, I enjoyed being kissed senseless by a handsome hero. At the perfect moment, love was declared and they lived happily ever after. What fun. Who could want more. I highly reccommend this book to anyone who loves adventure mixed with the perfect touch of sexual tension and enjoys watching the hero and heroine fall in love.

I had a real hard time getting into this book. Ellie's character is very ditzy, childlike and unpredictable. Seems she does many things that do not make any sense.

On bella isle she is escaping the man she was working for as governess to his child. So after that life threatening escape, she takes another governess job? Seems she would be to traumatized for that.

Slade is a to good to be true man of many talents. He is a ceo of a computer company tht employs 10,000 people. He has a great build and prior jungle experience. What a great person to choose because he speaks English.

The 2 goons, i highly doubt that once the revolution started they would have broke into the room. Sound no longer matters, kick door in, start firing.

Ellie falls on the mountain, they spend the night on the ledge. Then a few chapters were burned and don't show up because all the sudden we are in town, the revolt is ended, the bad guy is locked up and our H/h are now perfectly safe.

I realize this is fiction, but their has to be a ring of reality in it.

Im glad it was free.
