Another Trilogy?????,
By
This review is from: Deadly Reigns: The First of a Trilogy (Paperback)
At first glance I was so mad that Ms. Woods would start another trilogy before releasing the final installment of The Dutch trilogy. So I was a little hesitant to go there with this book. But I'm glad that I did.
The Reigns family is like no other found in urban novels. Damian, Dante, Princess and Dajon didn't grow up deprived in the ghetto then turning to hustling as a means to survive. The Reigns children grew up with silver spoons in their mouths constantly able to afford the finer things in life. But what can be worse than Ivy League Criminals???? The Reigns family runs and empire that's controlling the drug trade throughout most of the U.S. And they run it with an iron grip!!! Deadly Reigns is truly an appropriate title for this family. The effort in which they go after their enemies including each other is shocking. The bodies are quickly pililng up!!! Including bodies of federal agents who were sent in to bring down the Reigns Empire. But after several agents turn up missing the FBI turns up the heat by throwing in agent Grace Moore to infiltrate the family. But agent Moore quickly finds herself in way too deep. The jaw dropping ending as with all Teri Woods book is not really an ending but the begining of another trilogy that will leave the reader begging for more. The only question I have is how could you do your fans like this again Ms. Woods????

A Killer Family!,
By
This review is from: Deadly Reigns: The First of a Trilogy (Paperback)
The Reigns family is one of a kind. Based in South Texas, this crime family deals with cocaine on a grand scale. Very intelligent, smart and rich, the family's leader is Damian Reigns, a Harvard graduate with an MBA in business management, economics and finance.
Dante Reigns, known to the FBI as "Satan" earned a degree in psychology and is a graduate of Princeton. He is a sadistic killer. Princess Reigns, the ruthless killer sister is number two to the Reigns' throne and is not happy about that. This sister wants to be number one! She has tried to kill her brothers numerous times, just so she can have sole control of the billion dollar empire. The FBI and every other federal agency have been trying to catch this smart family with it's hand in the cookie jar or should I say the cocaine jar. But so far the Reigns has outsmarted them in every way. The FBI is fed up. The Reigns have the blood of a number of undercover agents on their hands but they can't prove it. When the Reigns kill someone it's like magic, that person just disappears...no bodies...nothing. Agent Grace More is bought onto the team as a.k.a Jonel McNeal. She is sent undercover to become Damian's girlfriend. With her beauty and smarts, she is to go deep undercover and bring down this family...not so easy... Find out what happens when the deadly Reigns try to rise above the other crime families and Jonel falls for Damian. An excellent cover and title and well worth the read. The only thing is it's the first in a trilogy...so that means waiting for the conclusion. Teri don't make us wait too long. Locksie ARC Book Club Inc.

After reading Dutch by Teri Woods, I assumed all of her books would be great. This was a serious mistake on my part...It was totally horrible. The plots and the situations that took place were totally unbelievable. There were times when I literally was ready to throw the book out but I am one to read through the entire novel to give it a chance. I was disappointed in the author for this one. I wasn't sure if this was just a little something to pass the time before Dutch III came out but I personally feel like it should never have been written. The crazy thing is part two reads a little better, but not much. If you are thinking of buying thi sbook, save your money..Trust me..

Teri Woods is here to change the game!! Seperating herself from other urban novels writers by not just promoting sex and hoodrats is something everyone has been waiting on. The characterizations of Damien, Dante, Princess, and Agent Grace Moore is by far more interesting and intriguing than any other characters I've ever read about.
All congrats are in order for Teri Woods because never once has she disappointed her readers... Only puttin out the best of the best, Teri Woods has become one of the Best urban novel writers today. This book was truly one of a kind and I'm pretty sure when the other two parts of this trilogy are released, it's only going to get better!!!!

Deadly Reigns,

It's about time that a black writer incorporated the Ivy league black persons into their novels. Damian Reign is the head of the family. A Harvard graduate with a masters from U-Penn, Damian is extremely brilliant. His brother Dante, a Princeton graduate with a degree in law, is as ruthless as he is smart. Princess Reigns, the eldest child in this family, wants to be the head of the family again--and like Dante, she is ruthless and fearless.
Teri Woods develops a prominent black family that is being hunted by the FBI, for their involvement in the drug trade. This book is superb--I would even go as far as to say that this book is Teri Woods' best!

Give me a break!,
By Picky Reader (Allen, Texas) - See all my reviews

This book was awful. The story is unbelievable. The characters are a joke. Some of the author's descriptions of places sound like he has never actually seen them. There are contradictions - like the one where Angela is carrying a D/B purse then later in the scene, her handbag is suddenly another designer label. I grew bored with all of the cliches, for example, how Damian kept talking about how he 'gives back to the community'. I think my head would have exploded if Grace/Jonel 'pushed her hair back over her shoulders' again. We get it - she had long hair!
The name dropping was terrible as well. Okay, okay! Damian has a lot of expensive cars and suits - did we really need to know what label he was wearing for every stitch of clothes and what make car he drove at all times? The book was long on designer/brand name dropping and short on story line, REAL character development and believability. Two shining lights (however dim) for the book are that it does a have a couple of suspenseful parts and it likely lead to a lot of people purchasing a book and reading who might not have been reading otherwise. I would recommend finding a used copy of the book so that you don't waste too much money. It is surely not worth it.

"Deadly" is an understatement...,
This review is from: Deadly Reigns: The First of a Trilogy (Paperback)
Deadly Reigns was a pretty good read. The Reigns family was a clan that didn't play, even when it came to blood relatives. The death and torture scenes in this book are quite graphic. It was hard to believe the over-the-top rivalry between Princess and her brothers Damien and Dante. I didn't quite grasp how the competition between the three Reigns siblings began or why.
The book left out key information about the parents of the lead characters, and whether or not the parents actually spearheaded this very diversified portfolio of family businesses. I also wondered about the younger brother Dajon and where he fit into the picture. In Deadly Reigns II, I hope there is some insight on the FBI agent's daughter, Stacia Ness, and how she ended up on the wrong side of the law. I also didn't really buy the bond between Damien and Grace/Jonel; their romance seemed out of place and not genuine.

I am a HS reading/writing teacher. My students all love Triple Crown books. I feel, they will continue to read if they love the story. As a teacher, naturally I preview and read all the books I recommend. I was happy to see that Teri Woods has graduated to good literature. Her method of storytelling has advanced and become more than just a "hood" story. Deadly Reigns had a story plot combining many literary elements. The grammar was all correct as was the spelling. What a difference from her beginning novels. Congratulations Terri, as a teacher I have seen you reach the top and I am proud....You are there!!!!
This was a very captivating story. It held my interest from the beginning to the end of the story. I can't wait until the next sequel comes out. |
