This was a book that both terrified and satisfied! The kidnapping of one's child is a fear that every parent lives with and Larsen lays open the wounds of her victims' families with sensitivity and empathy. The plot is complex and brilliantly woven, and in the end not a single thread is left hanging! A terrific read from page one to the very last word!

This thriller revolves around every parent's nightmare--the abduction of their child. The villain is tremendously evil, of course, and making a fortune. The brilliance of this writing is the tremendous sympathy to both sets of parents--the parents who have lost their child and will do anything to get their child back and the parents who thought they were getting their adoptive child through legitimate means and have become attached to the adoptive child. The question raised in the book is, "What about the child?" The child has grown up for years in an adoptive household by loving parents and views them as their parents; the child has no memory of their biological parents. When the truth comes out that the child was stolen not voluntarily given up, the painful, tragic and poignant question is what happens to the child? Returned to the biological parents who have suffered over their stolen child but whom the child doesn't know? Allowed to stay with the adoptive family? This thriller tackles a difficult and no-win topic in a manner that leaves the reader wondering what the right thing for the child is. There is no easy answer. It is a gripping read.
