Underrated to say the least, June 15, 2008
This review is from: Deadringer (Audio CD)
The latest album from Razorback (2007) featuring once again the dynamic combination of recognized German guitarist Rolf Munkes and iconic Swedish AOR vocalist Stephen Berggren. The group has delivered a bombastic and very diverse album. The opening track "Deadringer" is the fastest track on offer with a decimating chorus. The following tracks "Last man standing" and "Hero" will strongly bring in mind "DIO" mainly due to the vocals; In addition "Burden" is a six string riff mayhem.
Overall labeling this album is almost impossible; you could call it AOR but it's heavier, you could call it hard rock only it's faster. The few consistent musical elements are Berggren's huge choruses and Munkes' subtle melodies and ultra heavy rhythm parts; all other arrangements are bound to change from track to track.
Finally this album has attracted poor comments from a number of magazines, marking this release from 5-6/10. As all negative press reviews failed to present any solid arguments as to what this album's fault is, it is natural to assume that critics reviewed this album without having heard any of its tracks.
This is indeed an underappreciated project still, it is put together by renowned musicians and offers class A material. This is so diverse that will capture the attention of any AOR, Hard rock, glam metal fan.
