Due to the insurgency that broke out in their Central American town, daughter of Central American govt official is forced by her father to marry rugged American hero so she can fly back to the US. Both fight a lot during their trek to avoid rebels & fly to Miami. Their fiery interactions also ignite their physical attractions but do they have a future together?

I'm a Marton fan but I didn't care for this book. I tried to be forgiving while reading this book, knowing it was written in 1988 & would likely reflect some of the romance writing of that time. But there were too many things that annoyed me:
1. hot-&-cold heroine with her "I hate you" accusations to hero but becomes mute & easily-captivated when hero kisses her.
2. domineering hero who resorts to physical force (i.e., kissing heroine right after he rescued her from attempted rape, grabbing heroine) to get his point across
3. heroine did & said a lot of stupid things which drove hero to keep repeating his "obey me" commands & act more domineering
4. after all their sniping & avoiding each other esp after they had sex, true love developed b/w them?...yeah, right.

The only good thing I can say about this book are:
1. Marton's usual emotionally-involving writing even if the main emotion it evoked in me was irritation
2. good enough pace

Read if you don't mind a 1980s type of romance drama.
