Even more fun than watching the show,
By Mike Frerkes "Mike" (Bettendorf, IA) - See all my reviews

While I'm not a big fan of "Deal Or No Deal", I have seen the show and understand why it has been an overwhelming success for NBC. The game is brilliant yet simple, and fun to watch. However, its even more fun to play and this handheld version does not disappoint. Even though the unit comes with instructions, the interface is very simple to operate and most users won't even need to consult them. Being an "old-school" LCD game, the graphics and sound are obviously very simple, yet adequate enough to convey all the excitement of DOND. The gameplay presentation is well done and you need not be a fan of the show to become addicted. This is one of the most entertaining handheld games I have ever owned! My gripes about the product are mostly minor. The ON/OFF button is not responsive at times, but the unit will automatically power down after five minutes of idle time anyway. While batteries are included, they are the disc-type (LR-44) instead of standard AA or AAA. Aside from these two insignificant issues, this product is very enjoyable...and I'm admittedly not a big fan DOND. I can only imagine how much more exciting it would be for someone who is a fan of the hit game show.

Deal or no deal? That is the question, a game show type question, that has America on the edge of their seats. Alright, here is how the game is played for those who are new to it. You start off with 26 "briefcases" each holding different money amounts. The money amounts range from as small as $0.01 to $1,000,000 ($1 million). You choose a "briefcase". This becomes your case and whatever it has could be yours, but what does it have inside? Well, to find out, we open the remaining 25 "briefcases" one by one, each time elimating a dollar amount from play (hopefully a smaller amount).
If you open small money amounts, you drive up the bank offer because it means that your chosen "briefcase" has big bucks in it. Now, if you should open a big money amount, the bank offer may decrease. The banker wants your case for as little as possible. For example, let's just say you chose the $1,000,000 case. If the banker could buy it from you for $250,000, that is a $750,000 loss for you, but a gain for him. He might have to pay out $250,000, but that is only 1/4 or 0.25 of what you could have had! Now, about this game. It has the music from the show for the parts required, such as when the bank is proposing a deal. No, you do not hear the telephone ring nor is the theme song on this game. There is no speaker for the game because the game has instructions on what to do next on the top of the screen. I think that they should have an animated speaker on it even if it meant jacking up the price. It would have been worth it. Also, there is no volume control. However, it is a fast play and addicting (meaning you will want to play again to try to beat or tie your score. For example, if you make the million, can you do it again?) It is more fun to play "Deal or no deal" at www.nbc.com. It is easier to see and easier to play. However, this is great if you ride the bus a lot (it has no volume control, but you could mute it) or are on the go and need something similiar to a "game boy" that is not as expensive. 4 out of 5 stars from me, or 8 out of 10 (80%, which is a B in school grades). Hope you enjoy it. It is worth no more than $15.00 (without shipping and handling applied or tax). Oh, and Howie Mandell is not on it. In case you misunderstand, there is no one speaking at all. I wish there was, even if it wasn't Howie, host of the U.S. version of "Deal or no deal."

I recently purchased this game, and had a ball with it, however, when it came time to turn it off, it would not turn off. It has a built in battery saver to shut off after 5 minutes, but you should be able to turn it off right away. I returned it for a new one, and that one wouldn't even turn on. Once again I went to the store and exchanged it, and got another one that won't turn off when you want it to. It's a fun game, but it has issues.

I just recieved this game yesterday and I love it. The first time I played it I won a million dollars, to bad it wasn't for real. The thing I like about this game unlike some other hand held ones I have played is that you can turn it off, it has a little blue button at the top that turns it on and off. It will save your game too if you have to turn it off for some reason, which for me is great cause I have 4 little kids that don't always let me sit for very long. I got the electronic game too but haven't played it yet, I like to watch the show but I love to play the game, I got tired of playing it on the website so I purchused this to see if it was funner and it is.

very fun to play,

This is a very fun game to play. I'm sure everyone who is a fan of the show (as well as most people who aren't) would like to play it. I hope for those of you who have posted that the game only turns off by itself read this, because you can manually turn off the game by holding the on/off button for a couple of seconds. To turn on is a simple click, to turn off is holding it.
The sound is very interesting when it calculates the odds, just like the sounds of the show. Just stinks Howie doesn't speak in it, it would have been good to hear him say Deal or No Deal. I certainly recommend the game though

When Deal Or No Deal debuted Christmas week last year I was keen on watching it because of my dislike of bald guys but when I saw Howie Mandel on it I fell instantly in love with him. And so when my dad bought me this game I could've never been happier and so far it's been my favorite personal item to take in my Baby Phat purse,
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THIS GAME, Very addicting { I once held up a mall trip by playing it}, Has the actual music though it's not the rock version of the theme, Has a resume option to continue in case you go to the grocery store and you want to put it on hold, WHAT I HATE ABOUT THIS GAME, No batteries in some games, Howie Mandel's voice is not featured in it, Overall a wonderful game for the DOND fan, Enjoy

I enjoyed watching the TV Show so when I saw it in a handheld game I couldn't pass the chance buying it so I could test my skill at picking the million dollar case. I enjoy it very much especially when on a long car ride when you need something to help pass the time.

This handheld DOND game isn't totally bad for the $15 it cost. Here's my review, and I hope to get a user pic up online of my unit too.
PROS - I like the on off button at the top, alot of these handheld games just don't have one, so its a nice feature. You have the option of turning the game sound on or off, even during the game, there is no volume control, but as the "duct tape" can fix everything, you could always cut a small piece of duct tape and place it over the speaker if you wanted sound, but didnt want it loud! Or other methods of just covering the speaker w/a napkin or something.. The game is quite addictive and you always seem to want to play, "just one more" game before finally determining that there are other things in life to do! (the NBC DOND game you can play online is much quicker and is visually better) CONS: I really dont like that the numbers are so small, it makes it very hard to see if you don't have light at the right angle. It would be nice if had a backlight, that would make those late night games alot easier! I wish that there was a screen contrast adjustment, especially at the bottom, the case numbers to select are in 3 or 4 rows, are font size maybe 5 or less and are just very small, they all start off as black numbers and when you arrow to select one, the case you land on flashes between black and a light grey, once you select the case it turns light grey to show you have already selected that one. It would really help if they ever make a newer version of this game, it wouldn't be that bad if the game itself were a little bigger to enable a visually friendly screen. ------------------------------------------------------------ Ah, its not that big of a deal there is really no vocal sounds, the music is kinda cheesy, but all in all its a fun game for $ 15. It's fun, all a game of chance really, and hey on my 3rd time playing it, i actually picked the 1,000,000 case ! and got the million, no bells or whistles happened after that, the scrolling marquee at the top, which is where it gives you instructions and deal offers did say something like "SWEET!" I did stop in the middle of game to do something once and the game was waiting for me to select cases and it said in the marquee "Let's go already.." guess it was impatient! Wouldn't hurt to buy this game, $ 15 won't really break a bank and it's a fun pastime.
