2.0 out of 5 stars Piques the mind but lacks depth, April 18, 2004

Boice is well-known for his in-depth yet easy to understand commentaries (skillfully breaking down the book of Romans to understand it in every-day language), and is a respectable writer. Gleason Archer is also well known for his work in a paper entitled "Alleged Errors and Discrepancies in the Original Manuscripts of the Bible," and wrote the foreword to the book.

The problem is, the book is hardly a book, and is more of a thick pamphlet. With a 10-page foreword and a 35-page body, there's no way the book can cover any topic concretely; even more so when the book's divided into broad topics of:

1) Atonement
2) Moral problems
3) Scientific
4) Historical
5) Inconsistencies

Which are all big enough categories to warrant a book; 5-6 pages for each problem cannot satisfactorily address the problems. Although it's well-written, easy to understand, and has nice examples, the scope is just too big and the content too brief to offer any insight on the issues.

Those who want to examine apparent discrepancies with the bible should check out the book Inerrancy. Spend an extra 10 dollars or so and you get a thorough 500+ page book.

If you ask a child why they have blonde hair, they might respond with a simple 'because'. To the child this may be a perfectly reasonable response.

Such are the attempts of the good Dr. Boice in this book. The questions that are raised are answered with a childish depth and tend to raise more questions than they answer.

This is by no means a comprehensive work. The questions that Dr. Boice claims are the most common questions about the bible I have never heard of before.

In all, I believe that a total of seven questions are covered in this book. One of which is dismissed as being covered in a paper by another author (who has written the forward to this book), and being to lengthy to bother with in this book.

Very disappointing.
