Dean EAB C5 Preamp

Built-in Dean passive preamp with Tone and Volume controls

EAB C5 Rosette

Celluloid rosette and binding complete the look.

Mahogany Body With Spruce Top
The Mahogany/Spruce combo is a pretty common choice in acoustic tonewoods, whether for basses or guitars. Mahogany boasts a wide dynamic range, perfect for ampifying your nuance and still sounding good when you lay into it.

The spruce accentuates the bass and treble end of things. It also just looks great, with the deep brown mahogany contrasting the satin-finish spruce.

34-Inch Mahogany Neck
The EAB C5 features a mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, and classic pearl dot inlays. It boasts a rosewood bridge to match, with a contemporary "sliver" shape that's all Dean.

Celluloid Binding and Rosette
Speaking of looks, the EAB C5 has plenty, enhanced by the celluloid rosette and body binding.

Dean Tuners
Dean diecast tuners complete the hardware ensemble, ensuring you stay in tune even when you're plugged in and rocking out.

Dean Passive Preamp
The EAB C5 sounds great on its own, but sometimes you want to turn things up a bit (or plug into an audio interface for recording, perhaps).

The onboard Dean preamp offers basic volume and tone controls to dial in just the sound you need.

I've never ordered an instrument online before so I was a bit nervous that it would be junk. I was happy to get it and find that it is a pretty nice guitar. The EQ isn't much but I not too worried about that anyway 'cause I got it to play acousticly. It has a really nice sound and I can't believe how loud it is even with the b string. Good Bass and is worth the money. I'm Happy with it.

This is a great acoustic bass, but not out of the box by itself.

First of all, like most stock guitars and basses right from the manufacturer, the strings it comes with are terrible! Also, the frets are typically coated to prevent rusting during transport from China/Japan/Korea or where ever it is manufactured. When you buy an instrument from a music store, they typically do all the prep work for you. Purchasing through Amazon, you are essentially purchasing direct from the manufacturer and so you have to do the prep.

Most guitars/basses ship with the strings detuned so the neck was not under tension during shipment. This was the case with my bass also. Remove the manufacturers strings, and clean the neck with a plain, dust free cloth. I purchased one from a local store that is made for cleaning LCD/LED TV screens that was microfiber. Next, put on the new strings. I strongly recommend light bronze strings, and I purchased a set of D'Addario EPBB170-5 Phosphor Bronze 5-String Acoustic Bass Strings, Long Scale, 45-130 from Amazon. Tune them, and let the bass set for about an hour, and then tune again. Keep this up for at least 4 hours before considering adjusting the neck. My bass did not require neck adjustment after this, and had no buzzing.

If you don't want to do this yourself, most music stores will do it for you, but not for free.

Secondly, this bass has a passive pick up and tone controls - no real preamp. This means the output is very low. Get a preamp to go with it. I bought a Behringer BDI21 Bass Amp Modeler Preamp DI Box (also from Amazon, for $39.99) and with it, this bass sounds awesome through an amp! If you are going to just play unplugged, you won't need it.

The satin finish on the bass is fantastic.

This bass is great. I had a bit of trouble at first with the neck, and turning the truss rod didn't fix it. I called Dean and told them this and they said I should probably return it. I put in a return request with Amazon and by morning, the dysfunctional bass was gone and it's replacement was in the mail. Exceptionally fast service. I received the new bass a few days later, and it is spectacular. I have played an electric bass for 4 years, but I needed something unplugged to jam around camp fires. This instrument is perfect for that. It is beautiful, has a deep booming sound and it works very well plugged in as well. Overall a great buy, especially for the money.

The first bass that I received from Dean had a neck that was too forward bowed to be fixed by adjusting the truss rod. I ordered a replacement and it came hassle free with a good neck this time. With just a minimal truss adjust, trimming of the saddle to lower the action and hammering one fret to better seat it and remove a string buzz, this bass plays just great . The price justify's the small amount of work involved, A better pickup might be desired but all in all a fairly even output across the strings and decent tone.

I recently purchased this bass and consider it my best purchase to date. I recieved it over night and was and am very pleased with the playabillity, deep tones and perfect action. The Intonation is bang on and I have played at 3 get togethers and recieved alot of compliments from both amature and 40 plus year veterans of the stage.

I bought one of these several years ago and paid almost twice what they are being advertised for here. It has been an incredible value. So many people buy guitars online from discount retailers, then complain because they don't play right out of the box like shop adjusted instruments. Is that really a big surprise? Gimme a break, folks! Why do you think the brick & mortar stores charge a bit more? Buy this bass at the bargain price offered here. And if it isn't adjusted properly, simply walk it into your local guitar shop, wish them a Merry Christmas, and get the neck adjusted and frets dressed to eliminate any buzz and rattle. Most shops will spend 1/2 hour on that for under $40.

Ok, so it's a great Acoustic Bass, but it arrived with a dead pickup. I didn't do what I should have and test it right away, so now, almost 4 month later, I plug it in and no sound comes out. I'm not sure how hard replacing this thing is going to be, or what shipping it back to Dean for repair is going to run me. Anyway, learn from my slip up and test this thing as soon as your get it. Amazon will take care of you if you do.

I chose a 5 star rating because of the quality this product gives me overall.
Running this through my bass rig I finally got the punchy sound I've been looking for.
The fact that it is a passive pickup means no hassle with batteries.
Thus far I have actually used it in a performance live.
I would highly recommend this product even if it is only to be used as an acoustic.
