First, let me qualify my ability...I am an absolute beginner to electric guitar; in fact, I am an absolute beginner to playing music in general. I am a middle aged guy who has always wanted to learn. I have, in the month or so I've owned this guitar, learned a number of chords and I am starting to (attempt to) mimic some popular rock guitar riffs.

That being said, prior to purchasing the Vendetta XMT (mine is in the natural finish), I did A LOT of on-line research. Obviously not the best way to shop for a guitar; but with no musical ability, I really didn't know how to check them out at a local music store. Nonetheless, I narrowed down my choices and actually found a YouTube video where someone plays the same portion of a song on both the Dean Vendetta XMT and the Fender Stratocaster. The sound on the Dean was much richer and I liked that (obviously a YouTube video is not the best thing to go on, but it was the best I had). So I settled on the Dean Vendetta as my starter guitar.

So, the exciting day arrived when I saw the large package on my porch as I arrived home from work. This surprised me because it was substantially more than what you saw with the starter kits at the 'big box' stores. Inside was the guitar, amp, tuner, strap, cord, bag, picks and a brief one page instruction sheet for the amp. The amp is the first thing that distinguishes this starter pack from others I've seen in stores. It is not the tiny little cube these other starters have. Yes, it is just a basic starter amp with only the basic controls, but it has a nice sound and is definitely louder than you need a practice amp to be. This, I think is what accounted for the big shipping box.

This package comes with everything you need as a starter. Beware the shipping box has a picture of the Guitar. So if it's a gift ship it to a family members house and then grab it when you don't have the person you're gifting.

I bought this Guitar for my son for his 13th birthday - I have never seen his face light up like this. The Red color of this guitar has a lustre which makes it look like a sports car. The sound is awesome. It comes with a carrying case, amplifier and picks. I bought a stand separately, and have kept it in our Family Room (it acts as a display when my son is not using it) - It is a truly attractive instrument with a great sound. And the price is very reasonable.

This guitar plays great right out of the box, for the price nothing else comes close to the quality. The amp is garbage and mine quit working after 5 days so I bought a Peavey Vypyr. I'd say forget this package deal and just buy the guitar and get an amp separately. I've owned a lot of guitars over the years, quite a few of them were high end models, and this is an awesome guitar, it's the first Dean I've ever owned and I like it so much I bought a second Dean a week later. I'll never own and play anything besides a Dean Guitar after playing this Vendetta. If it wasn't for the piece of junk amp that came with it I'd give this 5 stars instead of 4, but just talking about the guitar itself, I'll give it 5 stars.

happy about this product. Great deal. guitar has a very nice finish and plays nice, action was decent, tremolo was pre-set to the max height but still plays pretty good, we'll adjust ours some when we replace the strings for the first time but not necessary. If you are a veteran player you will notice this isnt a top end guitar but still a good buy .

The amp has a nice clean sound and can get a decent distortion sound with the overdrive. If you turn it up, it will get plenty loud. we use a distortion pedal with ours. but you dont have to .

I beleive this is a better deal than other cheaper beginner kits. My friend tuned and adjusted it after we opened the box. He's been playing for 7 years and was impressed by the quality and sound from this relatively inexpensive guitar. I've owned it for about a month now and haven't had any problem of the neck warping or the guitar constantly being out of tune. The amps that accomany the guitar is good for practice and serves its purpose. The carrying bag doesn't protect it much when traveling with it, so I bought an additional hard cover case at my local music store. Also bought a guitar stand, which i recommend. A good deal for guitar, amp, case, and instructional dvd.
