4.0 out of 5 stars Really great- but with one flaw
This guitar is great looking and the perfect size for both kids and adults with shorter arms/smaller hands.

The sound is really excellent. Has nice, deep tones, which surprised me given the size and price- but it really does sound good.

3.0 out of 5 stars I am not a guitar player but this one looks nice but also looks cheap.
Well, I got this guitar for my Daughter(ship and sold from amazon $69.00); looks nice and sounds good to me but I don't know anything about guitars. I got this one instead of the pink ones because the brand and the price and comes with the bag. Something that I wasn't aware is that is made in china. I would not recommend this guitar if you pay too much attention to...

The sound is really excellent. Has nice, deep tones, which surprised me given the size and price- but it really does sound good.

My only complaint (and the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5) is that it doesn't appear that you can attach a strap to it (no knob at the bottom end)- which is a problem. (Though if someone has this same model and has figured out how to use it with a strap, let me know- maybe I'm just overlooking the obvious.... it's been known to happen)

I bought this scaled down guitar for my daughter when she entered college this fall. It's a perfect size, great color, and the sound is pretty good for an affordable guitar.

The guitar arrived quickly and in perfect condition. The price was right. My son really likes his guitar, especially now that he's seen it on some disney channel shows. I guess it is inspiring him and I see him practicing quite a bit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Small People, This Is Your Beginner Guitar, May 18, 2011

I wanted to give a review to represent the other little people out there - petite adults! I'm 4'11 and got a full-sized Yamaha dreadnought when I was a teenager. Needless to say, I did not grow into it. The Yamaha always felt awkward and not fun to play despite taking guitar lessons a couple of times. Fifteen years later, I decided to get past my pride and advice on forum saying all players need to get used to a full-sized guitar anyway and bought a smaller-scaled guitar. While waiting for this guitar to get delivered, I also bought beautiful 7/8-scaled Jay Turser JTA-410Q from Guitar Center. Here's my comparison of the 2 guitars since I got the Playmate today:

Jay Turser - It is beautiful in an teal-ish blue sunburst (not navy) and looks well made. However, it is heavier and the sound does not match it's appearance. The sound is not bright enough to me and not impressive.

Dean Playmate - Looks cheaply made: paint job a little sloppy in some little areas and mosaic design around sound hole looks like a sticker. Nothing for a strap to attach to as another reviewer stated. It is a lighter guitar also. However, the sound really surprised me. It has a rich tone and great volume. The strings seem easier to press down and easy on the fingers. A review from another website stated this model's strings are lower to the fingerboard, which leads to the ease of fingering but may cause rattling sounds.

VERDICT?
I am going to return the Jay Turser and keep the Dean Playmate. I had so much fun trying it out and look forward to trying guitar again. The size is perfect. Plus, I don't wanna go through the trouble of shipping the Playmate back. It was delivered to my door in a awkward opened 4'x2' shipping box with the packing paper spilling out. Thank goodness the guitar was safe in a manufacturer's box.

Specs-
Body: 13" width at widest part, 18" length, 3" deep/depth
Neck: 23.75" length
Total: 37" length

I got this for my granddaughter, who has just started guitar lessons. She loved the blue burst! It came quickly and was in excellent conditon.
