Definitely a solid piece of worksmanship, but I warn you, the packaging it came in blows. That being said, my only other gripes are the stings (questionable quality), set up (some buzz), and utter lack of manual/instructions. The settings you like are left for you to explore and find.
Still, Dean makes a solid guitar - I have a dean Budweiser guitar that surprised the heck out of me with its quality, and this feels solid and sounds good. As I am learning the bass, this is definitely the right instrument for me.

I have a good relationship with Dean as they are one of the few companies that make left-handed instruments without additional charges, and they also do not skimp on the quality of their lefty products. They have continued this tradition with the Edge 4, which is my first lefty bass. Previously I had played a righty bass strung "upside down."

The Edge does whatever you want it to do. If you want some punch and good midrange response, the Edge will deliver. If you want to have a good low growl, you can find that tone in the Edge as one, too. While it's not as perfectly expressive as an Alembic or other high-end basses, it certainly outperforms the Ibanez and the Jackson models I have owned and played.
The neck is silky with a "just right" feel, not too thin or too thick. The body is comfy enough for hours of playing standing up, which is the only way I play. And when I consider that the price is under $400, I almost feel like I should've worn a mask when I bought it because I was robbing Dean blind.

As with any Dean product I've bought, I recommend this instrument without question or hesitation. It's great to know that we lefties aren't always pariahs in the music world.
