5.0 out of 5 stars Correct Price?
I was shocked at the price that this model was being sold for. I added EMG pickups on the neck and bridge of this light weight power house. It plays equal to my Schecter which cost me over seven hundred dollars. I will buy out the supply that is left within Amazon and Musicians friend and duplicate and sell the same guitar that I have made out of this solid performer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good bang for your buck, but NOT what you ordered
Best $99 guitar i've ever bought. used to own squiers and ibanezes and this guitar blows them out of the water. Only one big gripe I have with the whole shebang. The finish is NOTHING like the photo on amazon or on the dean website. Totally wrong. It's actually a flat black color. I mean, it does look nice but it's not what i expected at all. total advertising fail.But...

I bought this guitar for my deployment as I wanted a cheap electric to play while over there. For the price, I was expecting a low-quality guitar. That's exactly what I wanted, something I could beat on and practice with while over there. What I got however, was a well made and excellent quality guitar. It is very light and good-looking guitar. Even the stock strings aren't bad!

This is a great guitar and I recommend it to both beginners and pros who just want a low priced guitar that still sounds great!

4.0 out of 5 stars For the price, not bad at all, December 30, 2010

I own several guitar brands; Jackson, Ibanez, ESP, and BC Rich which have run me into the $1000 range; I needed a guitar that i wouldn't mind banging around and use as a warm up instrument..It was a toss up between a fender squier or the Dean...I settled for the Dean since I never owned one before....

For the price it is not bad, I first noticed the weight, this guitar is incredibly light infact the neck seems to off set the weight a bit so it hangs toward the neck direction. The hardware is standard so there is nothing special about that...the paint finish is chool because it has not gloss sealant so no worries about fingerprints.

Sound wise it's not bad; I run a Randall Full Stack with a few extra gadgets on a rack and it sounded nice. For stock pick ups they don't have that twang sound but they do have a lot of hum since they are not all that well shielded which of course adds to the feedback. But this is easily fixed with an electronics upgrade.

Performance wise the neck is Ok, the spacing is nice so my fingers didn't cramp up unlike the BC Rich warlock bronze series so that's a plus. Moving up and down the neck is ok but the weight offset will get in the way unless you have a good grip on it. Other than a couple of issues and a good pickup upgrade it's a nice guitar for the price.

So, don't believe the pictures you see, go to google and find a customer owned vendetta; flat black and with the ugly vendetta logo on the headstock. 'nuff said.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not what it looks like in the picture, August 9, 2011

Honestly I am very satisfied with the guitar I have received. It sounds decent and feels quite sturdy, and the tuning pegs are easy to use. The guitar at first would not stay in tune, but now that I have played it for a while it has gotten better, and I have gotten better at tuning ;)
The only thing that I have to warn fellow costomers is that the colors on my guitar do not look like the colors on the picture provided. I cannot see any wood grain in the body, and it is not at all shiny. It is more of a matte dark grey. Also the neck is two different types of unvarnished wood, the fretboard is darker mohogany and the back is light. The only shiny part on my guitar is the head, which looks like the one in the picture. I love the way my guitar looks, but i feel like I have to warn other people about this. This is also the reason I cannot give this guitar more than 4 stars. If I could I would give it 3 1/2 stars.

Very happy with purchase.
I'm curious about the tremolo version.

Not the sturdiest of guitars but it's perfect for my 8 year old. I got a great amp for myself for Christmas and I knew my son would want to play around with the effects and I can't let him touch my Luna guitar because he's too hard on the strings. So I got him this Dean to play around with and it is perfect for that purpose. I've also played on it a little when tuning it and it's easy to play and not hard to finger the chords at all. It's also very light weight. I'd buy again for any young beginner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guitar for your money!, December 22, 2010

I am truly a beginner when it comes to guitars. I know the strings pretty well and the frets. I know a few chords, but that's about it so far. I just like how guitar's look. Anyways, I got this guitar based on it's reviews and how it looks and the price. The price is pretty much on par. The reviews are pretty much on par as well. The looks are sub-par I think. It does have the Trans Black finish, but it's not brushed on dark enough and it makes it look kind of green in the right light. In the dark it looks well. It has too many bare spots that weren't brushed like another reviewer said. After waiting for the guitar and weighing the pros and cons, I decided to keep it. The finish is kind of growing on me. I thought it looked way too green at first, but now that I look at it, it looks fine. Now about the sound of the guitar. It sounds very very nice. It has really clean sounds with the stock strings I think, unlike another reviewer. I got some Slinky 9 strings though because I hear they are good. I will use those for backup. It does come with a cable to connect it, and 2 allen wrenches. The cable is far too short I think so I bought another one. I think it's only 10 feet long. The guitar itself I think weighs less than my old Fender Acoustic. That's saying something about this guitar. I bought it mainly because of the finish and all the positive reviews it has on it's weight. I remember an old beginner guitar and that thing weighed a ton. I really like the weight on this thing. So, after my short review, I would say if your looking for a great sounding electrical guitar that is pretty light with a good price tag, get this one. If you want an all black finish I would continue your search. I just found out they make an all black guitar like this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap but has a niche, September 9, 2010
This review is from: Dean Vendetta XM Solid Body Electric Guitar, Trans Black Finish (Electronics)
There are actually two things that I like about this guitar that I didn't realize at first that makes me glad I didn't review it right away or I might have only given it 2 stars.

One, If you want a guitar you can play in less than desirable conditions, such as really moist or, well, full out raining...this is not a bad option...it has great tone and was cheap enough that if I scratch it up or totally destroy it, its no big deal...in fact I might buy more just for that reason.

Two, it doesn't look exactly like the picture. The striping you see is nearly invisible to the naked eye...but in stage light, neon, or dark lights those stripes come out and you get a weird effect that makes it look like the guitar body is like an infinite hole.

If you are already a great player and looking for primary practice guitar, this ain't it. The construction just isn't on par with where it should be and Dean shouldn't try to market it that way. If you are new to guitar, I would suggest buying something a little better to get started on..DON'T USE JUNK TO LEARN!!! (That's general advice, I'm not saying this guitar is junk.)
