The gentle, thoughtful letters in
Dear Charlie make perfect companions for those rare moments of peace in any parent's busy life. Christopher Kimball, known to cooking enthusiasts as the editor of
Cook's Illustrated magazine, has collected a lovely series of letters he has written to his four children over the years, some for a specific child, and some as part of a general correspondence to them all. The letters are full of the wonders of children, and the delights and questions they bring to their parents daily. Divided into chapters, the letters fall into categories such as "Lessons Learned" and "Amazing Grace." If time doesn't allow for reading the chapter all at once, each letter stands well on its own. With tales of small New England towns, warm kitchens, walks by a river, and other simple joys, the mildly spiritual overtones in this book are a soothing reminder to slow down and enjoy each passing moment spent as a family.
