Book Description

A peaceful, lakeside summer home... A gruesome murder... Valerie Davis, wife of Paul Davis, a prominent Minneapolis executive, is dead. Very dead.

Personal demons in tow, Ray Schiller of the Widmer P.D. follows the evidence to the Twin Cities, joining forces with Minneapolis homicide detective Dick Waverly. They discover many are suspect, few are innocent. The widower has good reason to keep his personal life private, and he isn't the only one--not by a long shot.

"Sweet nothings" become weapons in a war of words as intimates turn on one another. The case is turned on its head as ambition, love and hate result in lethal consequences.

When an unthinkable incident makes Ray the subject of an Internal Affairs investigation in the midst of the case, his personal and professional life are in the balance. He soon learns the devil is
in the details, and the details aren't what anyone expected.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Thinking back to what got me started writing, I suspect it was a school assignment in the sixth or seventh grade. We were told to write the longest run-on sentence we could create. Mine ran on for a full page and told a story to boot. The task was meant to be an exercise in punctuation, but I discovered that telling a story intrigued me. That's how writing became my lifelong hobby.

When I was forty, my husband introduced me to a wonderful gadget called a computer. The prospect of dealing with perpetually clean working copies blew my mind. Long story short ... got one. I've been writing in earnest ever since.

In 2005, Darknight Theatrical Productions produced and performed my one-act play "Flight 419" in Chicago, Illinois. A number of my short stories were included in an anthology titled Mosaic, A Collection of Short Stories, published by Omega Publication in 2009.

Dear Crossing is the first in the series. The second, Shadow Tag, will be published in the near future, followed by At Any Cost.

If you read my work, I solemnly promise it does not include run-on sentences. I invite you to check that out for yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dear Crossing, a Ray Schiller Series. May 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Marjorie Doering has found a new and exciting niche in the murder/mystery genre that will grasp readers and keep them coming back. A broken hearted cop, who seems bent on destroying himself and the town he serves, opens the door to a ghastly murder investigation. In jail for drunk and disorderly, Officer Ray Schiller is still needed on the job until Chief "Woody" Newell can give him the boot.

Step up and meet characters who are three-dimensional and readers will discover to their delight that none are as they seem on the surface. When Paul Davis' beautiful and rich, society wife is found dead, the list of suspects starts with her ambitious husband and goes from there. Greed, lust, and a plethora of other emotions head the list of reasons for Valerie Stockton Davis' murder.

Despite an obvious case of Hero Worship by the rookie member at the station, even Neil Lloyd isn't safe from Ray's rampage. The two manages to get into a round of fisticuffs that leaves them both bruised and bloody. But may lead to the only friendship Ray has on the force and in the town.

Did the tall, dark and 'handsome' stranger who drifted through town on the night of the murder have anything to do with Valerie's death? Who is the beautiful-enough-to-die-for blonde living in real estate fit for a queen? What about sweet, fresh Amy, the waitress at the Copper Kettle? Is she as innocent as she seems?

And what does a lost cow and a massive-horned bull have to do with the whole thing?

Readers are in for a thriller they won't ever forget in, Dear Crossing, a Ray Schiller Series, by Marjorie Doering. Keep your eyes peeled at Amazon for future Ray Schiller books in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Murder, Mystery & Thrill April 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This book takes you by surprise. A high profile murder takes place in a small town and unfortunately, for the killer, this town has a great detective. The plot continues to thicken throughout the book and ends with a surprise and a twist to leave you on the edge. Great book, I highly recommend it!!

Great mix of characters and situations; Ray Schiller is in the midst of personal conflict when he finds himself investigating a vicious crime and possible suspects with an unusual set of motives.
The reader is along for a great ride as he works it out. Believable characters and situations; well-written.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant Read
The book was well written and did not depend on sex and/or violence to make the story. It was more complex than necessary; too many plots going on at the same time.
