I am a HUGE Fern Michaels fan, but I must say that Dear Emily is my favorite of Fern's books. This book gives so much hope, and is such a wonderful story. If you have ever battled with your weight, love life, or self esteem, this book is for you. It changed my life. THANK YOU FERN!

A Lovely Book for Any Woman with Low Self Esteem.,
By Lovely to See You (Out There Somewhere) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dear Emily (Paperback)
This was my first Fern Michaels book and, if they're this good, it won't be my last. A great novel about a woman who lets a man become so much the center of her universe that it takes his leaving her for her to really understand the insanity of her blindness. I know this story too well from personal experience, and if you have let a jerk run you into the ground and then desert you because you're not worshipping his highness like you used to, you will love Emily Thorn and how she takes control of her life.
I will agree with the lowest rating reviewer here that she becomes too self-important for a while and acts like a whiny baby, but that was why she went to the retreat. This story is good because it's all about a woman who stops seeing herself as nothing but a victim and, though she is never perfect, isn't afraid to turn it all around for very long. I like that, and I think you will too, even if some of the story gets too unbelievable with the female bonding. Eight women are NEVER that close, much less three, so I found that a bit hard to swallow. Other than that, this is an uplifting and entertaining story of romance and self-discovery. Flaws aside, I think it is very well-written and inspiring.

Shame on you Fern Michaels,

I am offended by the number of times that Fern Micheals used the name of the Lord in vain in Dear Emily...was that really necessary?

Count as a Miss.,
This review is from: Dear Emily (Paperback)
I am a fan of Fern Michaels, but I truly disliked this story. I literally could not stand the main character. She plays a self-centered, wishy-washy victim the whole way through. I wanted to stop reading, but I purchased this book, so I made myself finish. I rarely want to put a book down, so the fact that I did not want to finish this story says a lot. The story is not believable and you are beat over the head with the protagonist playing the victim to the point where you want to scream, "Okay, I get it already!" Emily is either playing the victim, or a self-centered child with childlike thoughts. The storyline jumps are also bothersome and this happens repeatedly. The progression in Emily's physical health and the success of her company are not believable. This is one of the worst stories I have read in years. Everyone can identify with someone who has been beaten down or struggles with self-doubt/esteem and wants to better themselves, but this story did not cause me to root for the main character. If she were a real person, I would have distanced myself!

Dear Emily by Fern Michaels is really wonderful. You will love Emily immediately and feel her pain but love her as she grows. A highly recommended read.

Dynamic Emily!,
By Gayle Jackson Sloan "Author" (Philadelphia, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dear Emily (Paperback)
I have been a fan of Fern Michaels from WAY back, when she was doing romance novels. This book was fantastic! Emily might have felt bad for what happened to her rotten husband, but I didn't! I felt that he got exactly what he deserved. This book showed how easily it can be for a woman to lose herself in her husbands world and lose sight of herself. When they walk away, you are left with "what do I do now" and "who am I" kind of thing. This book showed how one woman put herself and her life back together again, one step at a time. Once you meet Emily, you won't soon forget her!

This was the first book I have ever read from Ms. Michaels. Unfortunately If I don't love book at first read, than I never read another from same author. I'm not proud of this but that's the way I am. I don't know how this was given five stars from even one reader. I realize not everyone's taste is the same but.. There was a certain section in the book that completely turned me off.. A scene at the airport where Emily was going to go away for a couple of months... She hugged her friends, cried, walked a few steps, came back and hugged them again telling them how much she loved them. She acted as if she was never coming back. Get real! I also think she gave herself too much importance as if everyone was supposed to be in awe of her owning fitness centers. "I'm Emily, of Emily's Fitness Centers..." So what. Then she talks to the ghost of her dead husband. Too wierd for me. I'll stick to Sandra Brown, my favorite.

Great Woman Motivating Book,
By
This review is from: Dear Emily (Paperback)
I'm a BIG fan of Fern Michael's books, and I loved this book, but for a different reason. Although the main character in this book became motivated to get herself together healthwise, and financially due to a man, I think this book would help any woman become motivated to do the same no matter what your reasons are for feeling BLAH! It's a wonderful book, it will motivate you towards self improvement --- I highly recommend it for any woman.
