I thought it was very funny,

I don't know if Fred Grimes is real or not, but he makes the hilarious job searches I've gone through look paultry by comparison. You have to admire a guy who makes no bones about the fact that he has no skills other than good old can-do American spirit. This book is a wonderful little read for anybody who ever wished he/she could get "the dream job" but realized they had absolutely no ability or experience. Fred has no such qualms. You gotta love him for it!

If you've ever thought about being a pro ball player but were too chicken to apply because you knew you would just be embarrasing yourself, then meet Fred Grimes. Fred has no problem writing to all kinds of people, trying to get work. You gotta love him!

Somebody gave me this book on the occasion of being laid off from my job of 15 years. I felt like crying after I got fired, but Fred Grimes made me laugh out loud. A very clever idea for a book--an ordinary guy trying to find an extraordinary job.

I found the book SO funny, it was hard to put it down. I told all of my friends about it and recommended it highly to them, and they all love it. Freed is wonderful, and should be commended. Great job

Dear Ernest and Julio is intended for those who can laugh wth life and not just at it. This book gives the reader plenty of laughs and even more smiles as we see that Grimes (through Freed) is somebody we can relate to, sympathize with and really like. When we laugh at him and his plight we can see some humor in our own foibles and struggles. Freed has a keen ear for real life, as evidenced by his very real replies from the companies that all too many of us have to look to for jobs. If you are like me, it will take a while to finish Dear Ernest and Julio because you are overwhelmed with the urge to share some of the most hilarious letters - especially those dealing with France. Laugh and enjoy. You won't find a more enjoyable read all year

A book of rejection letters seems like a novel idea, until you realize that it seems like you've read it before, and it was funnier the first time. "Dear Earnest and Julio" is certainly well meaning enough, but it fails to establish as eccentric of a main chacater as comedian Don Novello did in his classic books with a similar take on corporate America : "The Lazlo Letters : The Amazing, Real-Life, Actual Correspondence of Lazlo Toth, American" AND "Citizen Lazlo! : The Continuing, Unrelenting Correspondence of Lazlo Toth, American! Vol 2." Novello got there first, and in no knock against Fred Grimes and David Freed, did it better the first time

I laughed real tears!!!,

I bought the book last week and read it in the middle of the night. I laughed 'til I cried real tears! Uncontrollably. Shamelessly. The windows were open as it was a hot night, and I'm sure I disturbed the neighbors. My wife and I have already given the book as a gift--twice in five days--and we got 10 more copies for friends' birthdays, etc. (The book costs less than we usually spend, and will be more fun than what we usually give!) The Fred Grimes letters are really funny, but some of the best laughs came from Corporate/Political/Bureaucratic America's serious answer's to Fred's stupid letters! The note Fred got back from President Carter was both hillarious and touching. If this book doesn't become a big hit, I'll be amazed. -- Greg Meyer, Los Angele

Fred Grimes is my hero -- a guy who keeps reaching for the top. He wants better, and he knows how to craft a letter. If job searching were an Olympic event, Fred would get the Gold Medal. Someone ought to make a movie about Fred's exploits

There have been many knock offs of Don Novello's (sp?) letter campaign book, and although this had a few funny ones, it wasn't as political as Novello's or downright sidesplitting as Paul Rosa's "Idiot Letters." Seems he had a few good letter ideas, and then had to fill in the rest of a very slim book. Also--the formula is very similar to Rosa's. Good for a few--emphasize FEW--laughs.
