Book Description

October 1, 2008
This is the first book on the unique features of the Washington State healthcare crisis in more than a decade, and the only one ever to focus on the healthcare stakeholders that will make reform a failure or a success. Dear Governor: About That Healthcare Crisis is a compilation of open letters to the governor of Washington State from some of the leading public policy and healthcare professionals in the state. Healthcare spending now constitutes $9.7 billion (32.2%) of the Washington State budget, while 750,000 Washingtonians have no health coverage. Of those who do have coverage, 1.3 million will spend more than 10% of their pre-tax income on healthcare. There is a healthcare crisis, and leadership is needed. This book provides much needed insight. This book is a must read: whether you have a vested interested in health policy, involved in healthcare in Washington State, or a concerned citizen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensible even dialogue on important issue, October 6, 2008

This review is from: Dear Governor: About That Healthcare Crisis (Paperback)
Too much political discourse these days seems to be polarizing -- either inconsequential rallying of people who already agree with you or screaming against people who don't. This book is a refreshing departure. It's a sensible, even dialogue --with some vital, specific suggestions -- about what is arguably the most complex policy challenge we're facing today. Here's hoping that decision makers, the medical community, and voters all read this book. It's a step in the right direction to a solution!
