5.0 out of 5 stars Words cannot describe this cd
My friend was over one night and we listened to these guys. I loved them the instant I heard them. The frontman does the screams, highs and lows, and one of the guitarists is the singer. 1.0 out of 5 stars Makes no sense
This is a great CD, but just because it is imported, it shouldn't cost that much, more than $40 including shipping is ridiculous. This seller is ripping off people

My friend was over one night and we listened to these guys. I loved them the instant I heard them. The frontman does the screams, highs and lows, and one of the guitarists is the singer. They combine a few different influences, and they use a ton of keyboards in their music. They take the blastbeats from death metal, combine it with the riffs, breakdowns, and two-step parts from hardcore, and then add some amazing singing from the guitarist. This cd, which I have been waiting a really long time for, is comprised of 11 songs. 3 of which are instrumental/interludes, 6 are re-recorded versions of all the songs from their old ep Patterns Of A Horizion, and the last 2 are fantastic new songs.

Mike is a great vocalist. He has highs, mids, and lows. And Jeremy does a great job with the clean singing. The Devil Wears Prada is a Christian band and they express their beliefs through their music and lyrics. I myself am not religious, but I hope others like me will have an open mind to appreciate some fantastic music.

There are plenty of 2-steps, blastbeats and breakdowns here, and the keyboards are everywhere. I think that's what got me into the band so much. I love bands that use keyboards and synths in their songs.

If you're looking for some a great/metal hardcore cd, you have an open mind, but want something different from today's generic bands, give The Devil Wears Prada a listen. You love the amazing music combined with sick keyboard parts and beautiful clean vocals and brutal screams. This, is again another hardcore/metal cd that is going to be in the years Top 10.

It should be noted that iTunes reads the cd wrong. It shows Rosemary Had An Accident as track 4, when it should be track 5. And The Sentence Trails Off... shows as track 5 and should be track 4. Just to let you guys know in case you were wondering why they didn't match up with the old songs on the ep. Hope you enjoy the album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Frustratingly Good Post Hardcore With PIANO!!!, December 1, 2008
This review is from: Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord (Audio CD)
I can't describe how good this cd is. The vocals are spot on and vary between metalcore, thrash and clean melody. The guitar, bass and drums work together to create some of the best instrumental foreground I've ever heard (the breakdowns are far more creative than most of the metalcore bands around today.) On top of all that, this CD has some of the best and busiest keyboard/piano work I've ever heard on a rock album. The synths soar and complete this band...

Buy this CD!

PS
Totally clean, Christian lyrics. No worries there!

4.0 out of 5 stars Some Good Metalcore to Add to Your Collection, October 16, 2006
This review is from: Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord (Audio CD)
I ran across this name a few times from a few ads and I wanted to see what all the talk was about. So, later that day, I checked out their Myspace, and I was very intrigued. Metalcore has quickly become an outdated genre due to it's lack of integrity and originality, but I'll listen to anything with a beat before pre-judging. With sick, versatile breakdowns, sweet and subtle refrains, flavorful electronic synths, and a benevolent contrast between melody and aggression, The Devil Wears Prada hits hard with their first full-length.

TDWP has a way of making their contrasts in sound so obvious and blatant that the listener doesn't even expect it. Sounds almost like an oxy moron doesn't it? Well, sorry, but I'm dead serious. The vocal ranges are incredible creating variety and versatility between songs (check out "Gauntlet of Solitude" and "Rosemary had an Accident" to witness the best ranges) also lacking the monotnous waves developed by the standard hardcore savant. As far as the melodic vocals go, they aren't weak by any sense but provide a sensitivity similar to the likes of Underoath (check out "Swords, Dragons & Diet Coke" and "Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over").

The guitars work well with each other but, at times, fail to fill the void in between the hooks and breakdowns. If the guitars worked better separately or at least in the transitions, then this would be an album for the taking. The clean-work is good, though. They definitely work well with the synth ("Who Speaks Spanish, Colon Quesadilla") to infer stable electronic refrains.

The drums could definitely use some better double bass work, but have unbelievable potential. I felt like I was waiting a lot for a heavy in-your-face metal disastrous drumline, but they took a while to get there. Oh well, that was there purpose I guess, but I can appreciate a good drumline when I hear one. They play as a good backbone, though, for sure, especially during the breakdowns and transitions ("Modify the Pronunciation"). As for the bassline, it is almost unnoticable, but plays an important part in adding a thump to the drumline (it's main purpose for hardcore/metalcore music).

"Dear Love..." is one of the best and most talked-of debut full-lengths of the year. The Devil Wears Prada has great potential. I am definitely relieved I checked out this album. I don't usually listen to ads, but I felt obligated to listen for myself; a good move on my part, I believe.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love christian metal, January 11, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord (Audio CD)
These guys are awesome, it is so cool that you can still have insane music without all the bad stuff. The lead vocalist has the best range of growls and screams that I have heard from any band, if you can scream try doing what he does and youll see what I mean. The guitarists and drummer are very skilled, great breakdowns. Probably the most skilled metalcore band I know, Norma Jean is also a great christian band.

5.0 out of 5 stars New TDWP Listeners, Start Here., January 11, 2012
This review is from: Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord (Audio CD)
Anyone new to the territory of metal, or new listeners to The Devil Wears Prada, should all begin their listening journey with "Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord." This album reflects the beginning of a Christian metal band that can deliver head pounding drums, thrash riffs, while setting a lyrical standard as the Christian beliefs give way to deep lyricism that works perfectly with the high and low screams, while Jeremy Depoyster takes a break from shredding on guitar to deliver clean lyrics that really add character to this album. Depoyster's clean vocals and the synthesizer and keyboard parts help seperate Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord from other metal acts.

As a listener, you can hear a variety of different influences in this album and in The Devil Wears Prada's entire catalogue. All of these influences come together to craft an album that manages to be heavy and chaotic, while at times being so melodic and beautiful, you will fall in love. If you are considering getting into TDWP, start with the debut album here and work your way through their catalogue. Standouts from the album include "Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over", "Swords, Dragons, And Diet Coke" and "Texas is South." Metal lovers, do yourself a favor and listen to Dear Love: ABD as soon as you can.

I've owned the Plagues re-make and enjoyed it. But, I have to admit that I like their older stuff much better. Every band definately grows in the style of their music. If you don't know what I mean, just look at Linkin Park when they first started to the songs they are producing now. Much much different. TDWP started out semi-metal and then moved on to a little less metal and are now almost death metal. I like the mix between both of them and I think this is their best record. A very good buy and I recommend it!
