I wasn't surprised at all to learn that All Time Low first released "Dear Maria, Count Me In" in 2008. The fast tempo, loud guitars, and slightly raw male vocals reminded me instantly of the middle years of the last decade, when this sort of pop-punk dominated the airwaves, courtesy of Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, and their ilk: the angsty equivalent of the cloyingly romantic boy bands of my own late-'90s high school days. "Dear Maria, Count Me In" never made it onto the radio, but the single was something of a quiet sleeper hit, certified gold this past March. According to vocalist Alex Gaskarth, the song was inspired by a friend of his who became a stripper. It's a decent song, but far from the best pop-punk music you'll ever hear. It's well worth the free download, though.

This same band was featured almost two years ago with a release from their new (at the time) cd and it was a little better than this one. This song is about a young guy's infatuation and yearning for a showgirl/stripper and has all the bottled up energy and hormonal angst that goes along with the mind set. In 2007 this sound may have been a little more fresh, but now it sounds a little generic. Having said that the song is still likeable in spite of the boy band harmonies. The song has enough energy and rhythm changes to keep it interesting, but I wouldn't call it a classic. I am curious as to why this song was chosen now as the FSotD. If anyone knows what Amazon uses as the requirements to receive the attention please leave a comment. 3.5 stars here rounded up.

I love this song, but when i heard the samples for the rest of the album... they all kinda sound like the same song. I guess thats not a bad thing. Its upbeat & make you want to jump up & down when you hear it.
