Amazing album; my kid likes it too!,

This review is from: Dear New Orleans [Explicit] (MP3 Download)
This is such a great album. I've enjoyed listening to all of the 31 tracks and have had no problem playing the music around my child (as another reviewer said, there are only 3 explicit tracks, and it's not like they're cussing every other word). There is a diverse mix of artists (from My Morning Jacket to Indigo Girls to Steve Earle), but a cohesive blend of music joined by the artists' love of New Orleans. If you want to support an important cause and get some seriously great music at the same time, buy this album!

I love this album! The music is from the heart, with many of the tracks written specifically to or about New Orleans with tremendous care and tenderness. As the MC5's Wayne Kramer said, "Go to New Orleans and meet the folks down there, talk with them, eat with them, work alongside them and then play music with them and for them. Anyone that calls themselves a musician owes a debt to New Orleans." Clearly the musicians involved in this album believe that.
Not only is it great music, but all proceeds go to benefit Sweet Home New Orleans and the Gulf Restoration Network. To read more about the beneficiaries and the album, go to [...].

31 songs for $3, and all for a great cause. Really great range of styles. Highlights include the Alec Ounsworth song, the Mendoza Line and Tim Bracy's Collection Agency.

This is a very good album dedicated to the 5th year anniversary of Katrina. New Orleans has suffered more than any American city the past five years, good music has always kept New Orleans strong through much adversity. The various artists contributed their songs for this benefit album. There are 31 songs on the album, with a wide range of styles and tastes. My favorites are "Dixieland" by Steve Earle, "Late Again" by Nellie McKay, "Nola" by Mirah, the great Sam Cooke song "A Change Is Gonna Come" by Allison Moorer, "Blackbirds" by Erin McKeown, "When The Levee Breaks" By Nicole Atkins (this song was written by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929, and is about the great Mississippi flood of 1927, this song was made famous by Led Zeppelin), and the ol' Mardi Gras song "Carnival Time" by My Morning Jacket with The Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The only thing I don't like is that it has everything listed as 'Explicit', that is not the case, this is not an 'Explicit' album. By the way 'Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler' is a Mardi Gras saying that means 'Let The Good Times Roll'.

Amazing CD for a wonderful cause!! Buy it NOW! Even if you end up loving only a handful of tracks, it's still a good deal and supports the good people of New Orleans. So it's a win-win either way!

For 3 bucks and 30 songs you can't really go wrong.
The Nicole Atkins song "The Levee is Gonna Break" is worth the 3 bucks in itself. I love NOLA and the money to buy this was going to a good cause. Good music, lots of different styles I really like it. I must say, the explicit on every track is a little weird, but I have only heard explicit lyrics on a few of the tracks so far. I would totally get this album again!

How about laying off the "explicit" songs for a benefit album?,

I would have loved to purchase this album, but with just about every song marked explicit, and because I care what my kids hear, I will not buy it.
