Book Description

The best things in life are crazy...

Sara is obsessed with rock star Tyler Vincent, and as she works to complete her senior year, she's determined to find a way to meet him--although her best friend, Aimee, keeps telling her to find a different escape from her desperately violent home life.

Complications arise when Dale, the mysterious new transfer student, sets his sights on Sara, and she falls for this rock-star-in-the-making in spite of her better judgment. When Sara wins a contest, she is faced with a choice--travel to Tyler Vincent's home town to meet him, or stay and support Dale in a Battle-of-the-Bands hosted by MTV.

Their triangulated relationship is pushed to its breaking point, but there is another, deeper secret that Dale's been keeping that just may break things wide open...

Turn up your collar, feather your hair, and splash on some Polo, because we're going back to the '80's when MTV played music videos, there was no such thing as American Idol, and becoming a star meant doing nothing short of crazy for that one, big break.
Note: Previously published as Star Struck - but  has been considerably rewritten and contains a great deal of new material for your reading enjoyment - I think it's a far better story now, but if you happened to read the original, you can be the judge!

"Too bad we don't have a place to be alone."
"There's always the back seat." I was only half kidding, my eyes skipping to the roomy bench seat just a few feet away. Dale followed my gaze, looking tempted, almost as tempted as I was, even if we were parked right in front of the apartment building at one in the morning. The light in our apartment was off, which was a good sign. The stepbeast had probably been drinking all night--typical for a Saturday. Likely he was passed out in the chair. My mother usually just covered him up and left him there until morning.
"Come on." I leaned into him and he slipped his arms around me, our breath so warm on the cool September night it was already fogging the windows. "Let's do it."
He lowered his head to my shoulder, gathering me up even closer, breathing me in again like he did. I loved when he did that.
"No." His voice muffled in the denim of his jacket--I was still wearing it. Then he lifted his head, pressing his forehead to mine. "No backseats for my Cinderella."
"Then one of us has to get a castle before I... die." I took a deep, shaky breath, feeling the heat of his body, the way his hands moved lower on my back, up under the jacket, seeking bare skin. I couldn't stand it anymore. I kept asking myself how I could possibly feel this way, after just a week, but it was a ridiculous question, because I'd fallen in love with Tyler Vincent in an instant. Or... I thought I had.
He chuckled, eyes flashing almost silver in the moonlight. "You won't die."
I lifted my face to his and whispered, "The least you could do is kiss me?"
"Do you want me to?" He traced a finger over my lips, sending a hot rush of blood through me.
"Can't you tell?"
His smile rose up to his eyes slowly, darkening them. "I like to hear you say it."
"Yes." So close. His finger still pressed to my lips. His gaze there too. "Yes, I want you to kiss me."
"Mmm." His finger was wet with my saliva now and he rubbed it against my mouth. "Say it again."
"I want you to kiss me." I groaned.
"Say please," he whispered, his gaze never leaving my mouth.
"Please." My hands moved lightly over his neck and shoulders, broad and strong under my fingers.
"Pretty please," he insisted, a smile playing on his lips.
"Pretty... pretty... pretty please." I leaned nearer with every word, my mouth so close to his either of us could have bridged the gap in an instant.
I heard him swallow. "That was a very pretty please."

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read, but I'm a little conflicted... July 26, 2013
By Meg
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I feel a little unsure where to begin when it comes to writing a review for this book...

So, I suppose I'll start with the good and the broad strokes. Dear Rockstar is about Sara, a 19 year old girl in 80s New Jersey who is trying to complete her high school diploma after having to drop out due to her rotten home life. She harbors an unhealthy obsession with a famed pop star. And then she meets Dale Diamond--who happens to look a whole lot like her celebrity paramour, is also a musician, and, best of all, turns out to be an all around incredible guy.

I enjoyed the setting--the 80s references were a real blast from the past and gave the novel a flavor that would have been lacking in a contemporary setting. The first part made me feel as though I'd climbed into a John Hughes movie-- which is what initially interested me in the book. Like Pretty in Pink, except Dale Diamond is a hell of a lot sexier than Blane. I was a little surprised when, in the second part, it took such a...carnal turn. The first bit was quite chaste, so I wasn't expecting the sex scenes to be so descriptive. I'll say that the level of anatomical detail and the crudeness of the language in these bits were not exactly my cup of tea. I say this more as a heads up than as a criticism, as I know there are plenty of people who enjoy play-by-plays in their romance novels.

*If you don't want any bits of the story spoiled, don't read on, because I'm going to talk about a few plot points in detail.*

What I liked, but what in the end ultimately disappointed me, was that the characters were troubled. They dealt with real world, difficult problems. They face abuse, abandonment issues, eating disorders, and the ennui of society. They are wounded by life, and coping the best they can.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes the best things in life are crazy July 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really, really enjoyed this book! From the very start I loved it, I was so happy when Dale came around and how he instantly knew how to take care of Sara. The whole skittles on the desk was adorable. I instantly fell in love with him as I'm sure many of you did and will. Poor Sara has had it rough and later on we find out exactly how rough. Poor girl. I'm glad she had Aimee. I loved Aimee's character, I was so happy when her and Matt got together. When she asked Sara if she wanted a story, It was one of the sweetest things I've read. Such friendship those two had. I wish all females and friends could be like her. John, he is an amazing man that does not deserve all those secrets he knows nothing about. I understand why Dale keeps them from him, but he did not deserve any of that. He is such a sweetheart and I'm so happy he was and IS there for Sara(I'm secretly hoping he hooks up with Sara's mom) I'm glad the stepbeast got what was coming to him! GO DANE!! KICK A$$ and take names!!
The whole Sara obsessed with Tyler thing kind of got on my nerves a bit, especially when she won the scholarship and was ready to ditch off on Dane and just assume she would have any sort of relationship with Tyler. I mean, she should of been able to guess one of Tyler's secrets that have to do with Tyler...It's quite obvious. But oh well, she smartened up and I'm so glad she did, I don't think my heart could of taken it if she left. Dale was an absolute remarkable man and character. Loved him to pieces! The end of the book, I loved it. Such a beautiful ending. I really hope there is at least one more though. So we can see what happens with Aimee and Matt. Maybe John and Sara's mom? Dale and Sara get married? Have cute adorable baby rockstars? So much could happen. I sure hope so.

5.0 out of 5 stars I think I fell in love with Dale July 3, 2013
By Kelli
Format:Kindle Edition
Emme Rollins- you are amazing!

Okay, so main character-Sara, has a crazy over the top obsession with a rock star named Tyler Vincent. And I don't mean "fan girl" obsession. No, it's deeper than that.

Dale Diamond is new in town and an up and coming rock star. (I am definitely a Dale Diamond groupie)

Can Sara make room in her heart for TWO rock stars? Well, you'll have to read it and find out for yourself.

I loved how Emme Rollins chose to develop the characters. You get to know them more and more as you read, which in my opinion, allows you to really develop a relationship with them. If that makes sense. Anyways, I don't have a single bad thing to say about Dear Rockstar, well aside from the fact that I finished the book and am dying to know more about what happens with all of the characters. Encore, encore! :)

Okay... I grew up in the 80s. I never, ever did my hair with pink feathers and green-bleached highlights, but I still remember (and sometimes feel ashamed of) all of it! What an awesomely nostalgic book. Emme's writing brings you back there, lays the 80s on nice and thick, and then hits you in the face with a tire iron. There's a lot more to this book than nostalgia. If you like dark romance and obsessive, broken characters (well written, at that!), this book is for you.

I <3 Dale, by the way. He's all mine. You can't have him.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good poolside read July 18, 2013
By A Parks
Format:Kindle Edition
So, this was quite the trip down memory lane. I remember when MTV got its start, and would spend hours watching it. Yes, I was two years old...
Sara is infatuated with a rock star. I know, I know...all teenage girls go through this at some point. Sara's obsession, however, has reached epic proportions and borders on unhealthy. She has some serious issues at home, which are hinted at throughout the book, but are not fully understood until the end. Dale, the look-alike to Sara's crush, has some secrets of his own, which are also not revealed until the end of the book. Although, I have to admit, I figured that one out pretty quickly. I found it hard to believe Sara could continue to be so obsessed with a man she had never met, when Dale was right in front of her, and was the man of most women's dreams. I also struggled with how Dale did not run screaming from her when he realized she was totally infatuated - and would sacrifice the love they had - for a man she knew nothing about.
The book did a great job of dealing with some issues that are as prevalent in today's society as they were in the 80's. Domestic abuse, rape, eating disorders, and teen pregnancy weaved their way through the character's lives, and showed how these problems affect more than just one person, but have far-reaching implications.
A touching love story if you can suspend disbelief just a bit. An easy read while you are sitting in the sun by the pool this summer.

More About the Author

Emme Rollins is a NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR of New Adult/Mature Young Adult fiction. She's been writing since she could hold a crayon and still chews her pen caps to a mangled plastic mess. She did not, however, eat paste as a kid.

She has two degrees, a bachelor's and a master's, one of which she's still paying for, but neither of which she uses out in the "real world," because when she isn't writing, she spends her time growing an organic garden to feed her husband and children (and far too many rabbits and deer!) where they live on twenty gorgeous forested acres in rural Michigan.

She loves tending her beehives (bees are wonderful pollinators and Hello!? Honey!) and keeping up with her daily yoga practice and going for long walks in the woods with her boxer, Rodeo, who loves chasing squirrels almost as much as Emme loves writing!
