"No one celebrates and connects spirituality and social change in the way Yolo Akili does. Anoint yourself with these loving and strengthening words and then get out there and engage with life!" - Phyllis Alesia Perry, Author of  Stigmata and A Sunday In June.

"Yolo is an existential riddle, part wise old soul and part wise kid brother. Put this delightful epistle in your pocket and put wise young Yolo in your heart.  You will be happy you did.  -Franklin Abbott, Author of  Pink Zinnia and BoyHood: Growing Up Male.

"Dear Universe helps us see that when we encounter and embrace the truth of who we are, we become empowered to use that truth to benefit all humanity, indeed, all creation."-Layli Maparyan, (From the Foreword) Author of The Womanist Idea & The Womanist Reader

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By Stella the Good Witch on June 18, 2013
Format: Paperback
When I ordered this book, I had no idea how important it would be. Illness, loss and grief as parts of this dear universe have been major themes in my life over the past few weeks. On one of those 'I can't imagine getting out of bed' kind of days, some wise voice inside me got me to open Dear Universe. I'm so glad I did. I read it cover to cover in the next few hours. I got out of bed feeling connected, supported and able to love all the complexities of what I was feeling. Since then, I've added it to the daily readings that I start my days with. It's been amazing how fruitful and insightful Yolo's words have been. It's rare that I find such spiritual wisdom woven together with social justice in such an authentic and expansive way. Thank you, Dear Universe!

Like most true classics, this book is a short read numbering just over 50 pages but packs a powerful punch. These epistles, psalms, revelations, gospels, and spiritual letters have added fuel to the phenomenal shift that God has already begun to do in my life and as I read them aloud I felt their power impacting me.
