Most charming book I've read in a long time,
This review is from: Dear Vampa (Hardcover)
I can't believe there aren't more reviews yet of this delightful book! It's one of the most charming reads I've encountered in a long time. I'm a 21-year-old English major, and while I'd highly recommend this book for children of all ages, I'm keeping this copy for myself! The irony is sophisticated enough for adult readers to enjoy, and it certainly made me laugh at loud. It's not explicitly Halloweenish either (apart from the fact that it contains vampires), so I think it'd make a great gift for any time of year.

Our 7 year old loves this halloween book. He reads it over and over. Good books for kids to read are a pleasure for them and for us.

This is a fun story with amazing art. I read it to my daughter's second-grade class, and they enjoyed it quite a bit and wanted it read twice. Be sure to look for the clues in the artwork about what might happen next.

charming spoof,

This review is from: Dear Vampa (Hardcover)
In this charming spoof about the difficulty of getting good neighbors, a vampire boy named Bram Pire writes a letter to his "vampa" about his new neighbors, the Wolfsons. He writes that the Wolfson family does a lot of weird things like: they "stay up all day" and do noisy things that keep us awake; yet they call the police when mom's friends play music out on the roof at night. Bram further complains that the Wolfsons "tend to lock their windows every night. It's so inconsiderate". Elementary age children will enjoy the humorous text and the cartoon-like illustrations that depict various funny events: the Pire family desperately trying to fall asleep in their coffins, or their pet octopus scaring off the Wolfson children. The final straw is when the Wolfson children use their slingshots to aim rocks at some bats that are actually the Pire family out for an evening "flutter". As Bram reports, "Mom doesn't think she'll be able to face flying again". A double spread shows the Pire family, all bandaged up gathering their things together to move. A final amusing twist completes the story.
