Delicious Dearly Departed: Hopefully not just volume one,
By
This review is from: Dearly Departed: Vol. 1 (DVD)
Having been a fan of Scott Michaels' website for a few years, I was delighted when he released this DVD.Living in the UK, I went online, ordered and waited with baited breath until it dropped through my mailbox. Was it worth the wait? The answer is a most definate, YES!
Packed with fascinating insights into not only the deaths of the Stars but of their lives too, this is a delicious drive through the rich and famous from where they liked to hang out to where they died. Listening to the commentary, you can tell that not only does Mr Micheals loves what he does but that as he puts it.. "Gets it" We see inside famous death scenes, hear what the autopsy report has to say and then see the death certificate.Be outraged as we hear about The Ambassador Hotel and see what became of this beautiful, historic building. Chuckle as you listen to Scott's opinions as we visit the Bat Cave and view the Hollywood sign (as you've never seen it) For me, the segment where you see Marilyn Monroe's house, just to glimpse that famous window to her bedroom is worth the price of this DVD alone. I could sit here and rave on and on about this DVD but instead I will say this: If you want a hugely entertaining, funny, clever and very well crafted afternoons viewing that you will never tire of watching then buy this DVD now. Hopefully Volume two will be released soon, in the mean time I will have to settle for this viewing. Don't delay....

Excellent! A "Must Have!",

I strongly recommend this DVD to anyone interested in Hollywood history. Scott Michaels is an excellent host and he reveals some of the darker stories that come from Hollywood. He does so with a sense of humor, but never out of disrespect. Some of the images can be disturbing, so I would not recommend this DVD for young children or those who get upset easily.
Scott takes you to the locations where some of the Hollywood famous died and gives accurate information. Michaels has done his research very well. This DVD is a great addition to anyone who has been able to go on the tour itself and would also be good for those who do not live close enough to Hollywood to do so.

This, along with Scott Michaels other film, "Six Degrees of Helter Skelter" are must see for those curious about true Hollywood Crime/Deaths. It is an uncomfortable subject for some, but still an interesting topic that Hollywood History buffs should enjoy. If you ever get to go to LA, look up "Dearly Departed Tours"! Scott will take you around to show you many of these places and more! I can't wait for our next trip back, we plan on booking him again!

Scott Michaels is a great storyteller, a Hollywood historian and should be considered the ultimate source of information on where celebrities died and how they met their maker. Just as on his Dearly Departed Tour of Hollywood, Scott pulls no punches on this DVD when it comes to describing the grizzly Hollywood death scenes and the sometimes-juicy stories that surround the demise of Hollywood's most famous (and infamous) denizens. I can't wait for Volume II.

This looked weirdly interesting so I took a flyer on it. This will appeal to those who have an interest in the dark side of Hollywood history, (perhaps James Ellroy fans) and to some extent to anyone who is interested in Los Angeles history generally. The host takes you in his car all around Hollywood and Los Angeles and goes into houses and apartments and discusses in some detail all of the grisly and unfortunate events that occurred in those places. I imagine there is material for plenty of sequels.

Anyone who is intrigued by the dark underbelly of Hollywood celebrity and Fame, will certainly enjoy this documentary/movie. Looking forward to seeing the subsequent film, the Six Degrees of Helter Skelter, which I'll be ordering in the near future.

Dearly Departed Vol. 1 is a must have for anyone interested in celebrity death. Scott Michaels does a wonderful job of delivering the information so all can understand. He makes it interesting and fun. I much enjoyed seeing some of the rare items he has in his personal collection (envious!!). I look forward to seeing Volume 2!!

I purchased dearly departed and really loved it. scott michaels guiding you in the tour of hollywood celebrities and other famous people was really interesting. scott michaels also told A LOT of sidebars I did not know about the stars before that I found fascinating. like another person said here before what they did to the ambassador hotel where bobby kennedy was shot is a CRYING SHAME now as you will see if you order this video. the only little complaint I have with this video is I wish it was a little longer with MORE , old photos of the stars who died, but other than that I recommend this video and cant wait to get volume 2 of it.
