This review is from: Death from Above the German Fg42 Paratroop Rifle (Hardcover)
This is a very interesting historical account of the development of what is to me one of the most provocative firearms to come out of the Second World War. I've always had a healthy fascination for the 'guns of the Wehrmacht' (although technically this would be a 'gun of the Luftwaffe'), and the Fg42, with its unique blend of cutting edge looks and design coupled with its extreme rarity, makes it an altogether fascinating weapon to study. From the political side to the 'down in the ditches' design work, to the practical use in battlefield, this book covers all of it, and does it well. You'll not only see beautiful photos of the rifle but read of all the various prototypes and models (there are much more to them than First model and Second model), the design flaws and manufacturers, etc. I have a copy of the earlier first printing, but would recommend anyone buying now to get the second print which includes more information and photos than the first release of the book did. I purchased this book as an accompaniment to a Schoei First Model Fg42 replica which I later sold, but will definitely hold on to the book.
