5.0 out of 5 stars Well written, intriguing and enjoyable to read.
Rachel Gold Mysteries is an excellent example of the female detective/attorney genre. Not to be compared with Kinsey Millhone (which is the best) but the Rachel Gold series gives a different perspective from a female attorney's point of view. (Rachel Gold has a law degree and Kinsey Millhone has a high school diploma with police academy training. The differences...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Read
This is #2 in Kahn's Rachel Gold series, newly available on Kindle - and at a great price.

I thought this was magnitudes better than the first. I enjoyed the mystery on that one, but in this book, the author seems to have really grown: the writing and pacing were smoother, more taut, and the characterizations were much improved. And it was occasionally very...

This review is from: Death Benefits (Rachel Gold Mystery) (Paperback)
Rachel Gold Mysteries is an excellent example of the female detective/attorney genre. Not to be compared with Kinsey Millhone (which is the best) but the Rachel Gold series gives a different perspective from a female attorney's point of view. (Rachel Gold has a law degree and Kinsey Millhone has a high school diploma with police academy training. The differences in perspective are informative to say the least. Death Benefits shows an inside look at a senior partner's life that you won't get to see anywhere else. This was an intriguing and fast paced book. Also it takes place in St. Louis so you get the feel of a large city in the Midwest compared to the East or West coast.

I thought this was magnitudes better than the first. I enjoyed the mystery on that one, but in this book, the author seems to have really grown: the writing and pacing were smoother, more taut, and the characterizations were much improved. And it was occasionally very funny.

I enjoyed the unexpected history bits. I thought the villain was once again obvious, but the resolution was a surprise. I totally didn't buy the emotional issue at the end, but it was easily disregarded.

Diving right into #3.
