4.0 out of 5 stars Best overlooked metalcore CD I've heard, March 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Death Campaign Project (Audio CD)
When Officer Negative came on stage wearing black slacks, black shirts and black ties, some things were different. It was very different from the hardcore look they had before, and the music was very much heavier. In fact their new sound was so heavy and so dooming that most of their fans abandoned them. It's a shame because The Death Campaign is one of the best doomcore albums I've ever heard. Some of the filler tracks are a little long and boring, but the rest is amazing.

Since this is The Death Campaigns first cd(unless I am mistaken although they are going by their old band Officer Negative for the cd), it is a pretty good one. The quality is good and most of the songs are good too. Having seen them in concert and thought that they put out a really good show, I am glad I purchased this and I encourage others to do the same. Support this relatively new band and hope that they make more music.

5.0 out of 5 stars The wait is over...it is finally here!, March 25, 2004

Finally it is here. The Death Campaign is here!!! Black/Metalcore band The Death Campaign, formed from members of Officer Negative, have released their first, and sadly, their only CD. Oh well the Album Title: OFFICER NEGATIVE presents the death campaign project is finally here. What do they sound like? Well take ZAO's sound from Blood and Fire and Liberate Ex Inferis, mix it with some Black Metal of early underOATH, and top it off with a hardcore vocalist like the one from Symphony in Peril and you get this. The band is:
Casey Wisenbaker- Bass / backup vocals
Chad Wiggins- Vocals
Daniel Osborne- Drums
Joey Buli- Guitar
Roger Bell- Keys
Taylor Allender - Guitar / backup vocals
They are now working of a deathmetal project called Akeldama, and Casey and Taylor are in another band called "HIT THE DECK". It is a minor threat / shark attack kind of a youth crew hardcore/punk band. My recomendation to you is to support this band, officer negative, hit the deck, and akeldama, because they have a lot of heart and souls put into each band, and each band has there own identity. This is an absolute must have for anyone who has taste and enjoys extreme music. Pick up your copy today.

Your cd is great! I thought the best songs on this cd are 1,2,3,4,and 8. Get it today if you like heavy vocals mixed w/heavy guiters and drums! Its a barrel of good stuff get it today!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a Dead Campaign..., March 31, 2004
This review is from: The Death Campaign Project (Audio CD)
In 1966, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, and John Lennon released the compositional masterpiece known as "Revolver". With "Help!" and "Rubber Soul", the Beatles again and again showcased that the Lennon/McCartney duo was the best song-writing team on either side of the Atlantic. However, it wasn't until "Revolver" that the band proved that such a feat could never be overtaken. In the same manner, Officer Negative makes a leap of progression on "The Death Campaign Project" that was unquestionably unexpected. (I am in no way trying to compare Officer Negative to the Beatles, except in a proportional manner).

Musically, Chad, Casey and company have developed an epic concept type record (whether purposely or not, I do not know, but it comes across that way) that never strays from that feel. Whether it be the thrashy riffs of "The Dawn Breaks" or the long interlude of "Reality of Emptiness", Officer Negative keeps the emotional mood steady without straining it in a overly artistic manner. The band also is able to drive their technical abilities above and beyond their previous capabilities. Blastbeats, 32nd notes, soft/hard dynamics, and time changes ("Pile of Broken Tools" changes time four times in four minutes) all permeate themselves effortlessly throughout the album. While many bands like Symphony in Peril and Norma Jean have the same basic sound, it would seem as though this album would be a tiring effort of the same-old, same-old. However, because of the bands years of experience and song-writing capacity, they succeed by outperforming most other bands in the metalcore genre.

Lyrically, Chad brings his best material to the table on "The Death Campaign Project". Allusions to the brilliant Song of Solomon (Who needs man's view on romance?) and Harry W. Schaumburg's "False Intimacy" are tactfully made with true artistic, yet not artfully confusing, metaphors and euphemisms. Proof that Christianity, while not needing intellectual speech (1 Thess. 2:5), can still be represented in an artistic manner that can hold up to any of the secular world's literary accomplishments.

While "The Death Campaign Project" takes only a few steps forward from what is currently being produced in the metalcore genre, it is the fact that it made those few steps so enjoyable that keeps this album entertaining and equivocatingly heart-wrenching for the entirety of its length. May the movement for innovative, yet still familiar, music never be a dead campaign. If this album represents the "Revolver" of Officer Negative's career, then I, for one, cannot wait for Sgt. Pepper.
