Richard MacAllister, a talented young comic book writer, has just been handed the opportunity of a lifetime - he is ordered to kill off America's greatest superhero, the Mighty Centurion, in a desperate move to rekindle public interest in the struggling character and avert the financial collapse of one of the world's largest media empires.
But when word leaks out of the Centurion's demise, a killer snaps and MacAllister's colleagues wind up in the morgue. The murders are patterned after killings that took place more than a half century ago in the original comic book installments of the Centurion.
MacAllister must use his skills as a crime writer, and his knowledge of comic book history, to outwit the killer before he becomes the final victim in a complex murder scheme that is taken from the pages of an early comic book serial.
