Book Description

USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR
First book in the Death by Chocolate series

Lindsay loves chocolate. It tastes good, it makes her feel good, it never cheats on her like her almost-ex-husband. It's her best friend. But someone wants her dead and uses her weak spot—chocolate—to try to murder her.

Lindsay's only secret is the recipe for her chocolate chip cookies, but she is surrounded by neighbors with deadly secrets. Suddenly she finds herself battling poisoned chocolate, a psycho stalker, and a dead man who seems awfully active for a corpse.

Her best friend and co-worker, Paula, dyes her blond hair brown, hides from everybody and insists on always having an emergency exit from any room. Secrets from Paula's past have come back to put lives in jeopardy.

Determined to help Paula, Lindsay enlists the reluctant aid of another neighbor, Fred, an OCD computer nerd. In spite of his mundane existence, Fred possesses tidbits of knowledge about such things as hidden microphones, guns, the inside of maximum security prisons and how to take someone down with a well-aimed kick to his chin.

As Lindsay battles the elusive stalker, poisoned chocolate, and the dead man, she will need more than a chocolate fix to survive. But that’s always a good start.

About the Author

I grew up in a small rural town in southeastern Oklahoma where our favorite entertainment on summer evenings was to sit outside under the stars and tell stories. When I went to bed at night, instead of a lullaby, I got a story. That could be due to the fact that everybody in my family has a singing voice like a bullfrog with laryngitis, but they sure could tell stories—ghost stories, funny stories, happy stories, scary stories. For as long as I can remember I've been a storyteller. Thank goodness for computers so I can write down my stories. It's hard to make listeners sit still for the length of a book! Like my family's tales, my stories are funny, scary, dramatic, romantic, paranormal, magic. Besides writing, my interests are reading, eating chocolate and riding my Harley. Contact information is available on my website. I love to talk to readers! And writers. And riders. And computer programmers. And teachers. And gardeners. And dogs. And puppets and poets and pirates and pawns and kings. Okay, I just plain love to talk! http://www.sallyberneathy.com

5.0 out of 5 stars YUMMY humour! February 2, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I LOVED Death By Chocolate! It's funny, mysterious, and thoughtful. Sally Berneathy draws you into the heroine's spiraling-out-of-control life so effortlessly. This is one of those books where you have to read to the very end all at once - no putting this one down! And the recipes - to die for! :D

If you love murder-mysteries, sarcasm, good humour and- of course - chocolate!! This is the book for you!

This is not the type of book I would ordinarily choose to read. I was prepared not to like it. I agreed to read it because Sally is a close friend of mine. After the first few pages I couldn't put it down. The characters are so real and the dialog so natural that it is more like being there than just reading a book. I was completely immersed in their world. It makes you laugh a lot and sometimes might bring a tear to your eye. An emotional roller coaster ride that pulls you along as it spirals out of control. Don't start this book until you have the time to read it straight through. You will not want to put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars You must read this book! February 15, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't recommend a book to my friends unless I absolutely love it. I've recommended this book to complete strangers - I LOVE it that much! The characters are realistic, the dialogue is snappy, the plot is deliciously twisted AND it's stinkin funny! The only "downside" is that I craved chocolate the entire time I was reading it! My only question - when's the movie coming out?? And who is going to play King Henry?!!

5.0 out of 5 stars What A Ride! September 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Ms. Berneathy has given us all the ingredients needed to make a successful story; murder, mystery, toxic ex-husbands, a strangely intuitive cat, and chocolate. The story runs full tilt, mirroring the heroine's life, leaving the reader wondering that the heck will happen next. The author does an outstanding job of keeping the spotlight on the main character while breathing life into her secondary characters as they gracefully weave in and out of each scene.

The bad guy is especially bad, the hero is hunky, and the heroine has enough humor and spunk to keep the reader chuckling as the story winds down to a satisfying ending. If that wasn't enough, every chocolate based offering mentioned in the book can be found at the back in the recipe section. Congrats to Ms. Berneathy for a well written and fun read.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a fun story! March 2, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was so enjoyable that I had a hard time putting it down when it was time to go to work! They say the measure of a good book is one that you don't want to finish because you are enjoying it so much and want more. That perfectly describes Sally's book! It was very well written. The characters were so real and the story line so intriguing that I would love to see more books by this author. I haven't been able to find other titles, yet. I would love to read more of her writing. I would also like to find out a lot more about Fred. Her descriptions of his quirky character kept me smiling throughout the story line. Sally Berneathy is my new favorite author!

This book is a fun read! The suspense grips you and keeps you turning the pages while the humor keeps you laughing even as you fear for the characters' safety. With a quirky heroine and a mystery man, these two grab the audience from the git-go! I am in hopes the author will write a sequel? She knows how to keep me coming back for more!!

Wow!
This book is a fun read! The suspense grips you and keeps you turning the pages while the humor keeps you laughing even as you fear for the characters' safety. Lindsay is a quirky heroine we can all relate to. And what about the mysterious Fred? Is there going to be a sequel? Will he ever figure out who he really is? I hope so! I want to read more of this author!

Currently I have written four Death by Chocolate mysteries: Death by Chocolate; Murder, Lies and Chocolate; The Great Chocolate Scam; and Chocolate Mousse Attack as well as two Charley's Ghost mysteries: The Ex Who Wouldn't Die and The Ex Who Glowed in the Dark. More in each series will be released as soon as I can copy them from my brain to the computer!

I have sold fifteen romance novels ranging from comedy to dark suspense under the names Sally Carleen, Sally Steward and Sara Garrett. For these novels, I won several awards including National Readers' Choice, Romantic Times Best Silhouette Romance and two Rita finalist slots. Most of the Silhouettes are available as e-books, and I have e-pubbed six of the out-of-print single titles.
