Book Description

November 12, 2008
Fans of Agatha Christie, Tony Hillerman and even TV's Patrick Jame will enjoy reading about the adventures of unlikely detective Realtor Reagan McHenry who uses keen observation, flashes of insight, and sometimes stubborn  tenacity to solve murders.

The Death Contingency introduces the character who works in the beach community of Santa Cruz. Her job puts her in the midst of mystery and even murder when a seller who disappears before signing a grant deed turns up dead. She's aided in her sleuthing by her husband, Tom, a computer programmer turned real estate broker, and reluctantly by her friend Dave, a cop confined to desk duty after losing an eye in a shootout.

Dave wishes Regan would stop meddling and leave crime solving to the police, and she'd like to, but she's convinced the the police are looking at the wrong person for murder. To catch the killer, she has to unravel the secrets of the murder victim's past to figure out why he had to die.

Review

"The Regan McHenry Mystery Series is fun, easy reading filled with well hidden secrets, reminiscent of the Miss Marple series by Agatha Christie..." --Renee's Book Talk

"...Regan McHenry--a realtor who investigates murder mysteries in Santa Cruz County in between showing property. Nancy's books are smart, funny mysteries, which also give a true to life look at the life of a real estate agent..." --San Francisco Examiner.com

Review

Nancy Lynn Jarvis has taken her career as a Real Estate Agent and turned it into a mystery-writing phenomenon. The Regan McHenry Mystery Series is fun, easy reading filled with well hidden secrets, reminiscent of the Miss Marple series by Agatha Christie. Both novels held my interest from beginning to end, with a well paced, can't put the book down, response from this reader.

This is an author who really knows her craft. Obviously well researched, the book is loaded with interesting facts and good solid background. A very well crafted, interesting murder mystery. My hat's off to Nancy! As the Twig is Bent

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun ride!, June 16, 2009
This review is from: The Death Contingency (Paperback)
After spending three times on the buyer's market in Santa Cruz, and one selling experience, I think I got to know a lot about it from a client's perspective. I always enjoy a book set somewhere I've lived!

Well, I had a fun ride through the book and the landscape--and I may have used the same title company that's in the novel. I stayed up too late two nights in a row to finish the book, which I would say dovetails several sub genres--the cozy mystery, the roman a clef, the special interest mystery, and a darned good read.

Obviously, anyone who's read or reviewed it has enjoyed it. So what's keeping you from ordering it right now?

Oh, one thing more--Regan reminded me of my favorite realtor, who got us in and out of the first house we bought, on eastside Santa Cruz.

4.0 out of 5 stars Is murder ever justified?, May 21, 2009
By
This review is from: The Death Contingency (Paperback)
This first in the writer's series asks some thought provoking questions along the way to solving a mystery and, of course, murder. Readers get a look at how real estate works: sometimes it's a tough business and sometimes some pretty funny stuff happens. I like the author's second book, "Backyard Bones" even more than this one.
