I will read anything with Christy Barritt's name on the cover. I know I'm in for fun, suspense and romance and never more than I found in Death of the Couch Potato’s Wife. This book is Barritt at her best. ~ Bestselling author Mary Connealy, writing suspense as Mary Nealy

About the Author

Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay . . . actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery for her book Suspicious Minds also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush. When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.

Boring, IN, caught my attention. Not your average murder village. Sound a bit funny. It is. It's also well done as the main plot (1 of many) is an apparent murder by pork rinds. Throughout the story, a multitude of locals become suspect, and discovering the quirky characteristics of the cast is quite fun. Having Boring, Indiana folk murdered sure adds spice to Midwest dull-drums.

A fired Chicago PR turns into a Boring sleuth, and as Indiana natives know, a blind hog can find an acorn once in a while. Laura's imagination is a big as an Indiana bushel of corn. For a sidekick, she has Babe, 70 yr old. Both ladies have their secrets and love entanglement problems, but that's a tangent compared to finding the Boring killer before another Dullington Estates resident kicks the bucket involuntarily. Will the sleuth duo be of help to Chief Romeo?

I'm hoping, as a Hoosier book lover, that this is a series. It sure ends with an opportunity for another caper in this wee Boring burg. Even a hint of Christian characterization, not preachy, but it adds to the mix of the shenanigans moseying around this NOT-SO Boring place.

Fun and recommended, but don't eat the pork rinds.

This was for the most part a quick read cosy. It does have more than a passing theme which is God& Christian related.
Just thought people should know.

Laura Berry agreed to move from Chicago to Dullington Estates in Boring, Indiana, so her husband could follow his dream of owning a pharmacy. But after nine months, Laura is still missing the big city and her job with a PR firm. She doesn't feel that she fits in with the community that must adhere to whatever the Home Owner's Association decides. To make matters worse, the move has made her feel even more distanced from husband of seven years. He wants to spend all his time at work--and to add to her discomfort--she discovers that he leaves work every Friday for an hour, without telling her or his assistant where he's going.

Out of all the ladies in the neighborhood, Laura feels she has one true friend--a spunky seventy-year-old woman called Babe. Things liven up when Laura and Babe check in on one of their neighbors and find the woman on her couch dead--with a bag of pork rinds close by. When the news gets out that the pork rinds were coated with sleeping pills and the woman was murdered, Babe and Laura set out to help solve the mystery. The woman's husband--furniture store owner and couch king--was supposedly out of town golfing. But almost everyone in the neighborhood seems to have possible motive for killing the woman. Things go from bad to worse for Laura when she begins receiving threats, and she wonders if she's closing in on the truth as to who poisoned her neighbor.

In Death of a Couch Potato's Wife, the author introduces us to a batch of quirky, distinguishable characters. There's Babe--the elderly woman who does Zumba. Harry--the guy who diligently runs the neighborhood watch because he desperately wants to be a policeman. Hillary, Donna, and Tiara--three neighbors who have their own agendas and reasons for wanting to be Laura's friend.

Who would name a town Boring? That must have made the town itself huff up and cause something to happen.

At any rate nothing seems to be boring in this story. Not with 70 yr old Babe and her nosy ways. But Laura didn't have to follow her, did she? So wouldn't you agree that it's her own fault if she's called an accessory to the crime of breaking and entering?

If you love mysteries as I do, you will be hooked from the first sentence.

I really enjoyed this book and the characters. I'm hoping for a second book with the same characters living in "Boring". This book really held my interest, there were so many times i though i knew who the murderer was, and that was done cleverly, not overwhelming to where you get confused. I laughed alot too, which made it even more fun to read. I highly recommend this book! I'm going to keep my eye on this author!

Laura Berry has left her urban life in a big city for a life in suburban Boring, Indiana. She's escaping multiple bad events in her past, but dealing with the neighborhood's Home Owner's Association isn't much better. When one of her only new friends in town turns up dead, Laura dives into investigating the murder - there isn't much else to do in Boring.

I was surprised about how much I disliked this novel. I've read Christy Barritt's Squeaky Clean series and loved it! But this was FAR from the quality those novels. The character and plot development were terrible in this book. For one, Laura was a whining brat the entire book! She had several things to mope about, all tangents that the book could have done without entirely. There weren't any likable characters, no one worth cheering for. The plot was predictable, I honestly guessed the culprit from the moment they made their first appearance.

I really hope Christy Barritt doesn't waste any more time making this into a series as planned - it isn't worth it. I'm glad I grabbed this as a free kindle book, and only wasted my time reading it.

About the Kindle Edition - there are MAJOR formatting problems that make the story incredibly hard to follow. The breaks between characters' dialog aren't made when they should be, so often it's impossible to know when one character starts speaking after another. Paragraphs are also broken up at random, punctuation is missing... I'm surprised that it hasn't been pulled for further editing.
