5.0 out of 5 stars Fast paced, fun read, January 24, 2010

John Bailor's high action thriller introduces us to special agent, Trevor Byrne, a complex character tough enough to kill bad guys when necessary yet sensitive enough to care for his pet rabbit, Cadbury. Fast paced and fun to read, "Death Dealt The Hand," is the first in what I hope is a long-lived series. I'm looking forward to Book 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great beach read, February 15, 2011

Fast moving, at a rapid pace, and on the edge of your seat with thrills galore. A fine book, fiction of course, that could become reality, or maybe already did take place. Can't wait for the next volume.

4.0 out of 5 stars Raw sex, brutal violence, and a secret agent with a pet bunny, December 17, 2009

This review is from: Death Dealt the Hand (Paperback)
I had a great time reading this novel, which reminded me of the fast-paced super-spy series of the 60s & 70s like THE DESTROYER and THE EXECUTIONER. Full of unpredictable twists, unexpected moments of tenderness, and one of the nastiest villains I've come across in a long time. Special agent Trevor Byrne is no indestructible superhero though, he takes a lot of punishment on his way to neutralizing a threat against the entire globe--and the final climax is as terrifying as it is exciting. And the supporting characters are well-drawn and feel real (I especially liked Trevor's relationship with his pet rabbit Cadbury), so that you really care what happens to every one of them (and often some very bad things happen to them). Definitely not a thriller for the faint of heart or the squeamish, but if you're looking for surprises and thrills, DEATH DEALT THE HAND delivers them in spades.

More About the Author

With a lifelong love of books, television, and movies, it was only a matter of time until I wrote a novel. As a Pennsylvania native, it's no surprise much of my debut thriller, Death Dealt the Hand, takes place in Central PA. What was a surprise was having the first release of the novel ranked one of the Top Ten Books of 2007!

Even with the success my first book achieved, when Gryphonwood Press began discussions to republish Death Dealt the Hand, I decided to take advantage of the opportunity to tweak the story. Thanks to this release, I'm now a member of International Thriller Writers.

My first professionally published work was the short story "Operation: Desert Destroyer," which was included in Warren Murphy's anthology Destroyer World: New Blood.

I'm a bank manager by day, with twenty-plus years in the financial industry. I enjoy working at a local bank and helping people and businesses with their financial needs.

I'm always learning more about writing. In addition to the International Thriller Writers, I am also a member of Pennwriters. Currently several project are in the works, including the second Trevor Byrne novel, A Devastating Death.
