3.0 out of 5 stars Dont even try to evade or block! Just watch Nina bounce
Yes, it's Nina. Whatever, I found her to be a very annoying character in tekken (I'm an Eddy Gordo man meself). I got the Demo In PSM and amidst the Area 51 and Musashi demos, I played this one the most. Why? Well, I do love the ladies, but I did find it fun to kick ass with the taps, pick up guns and katanas, and bust up goons internally. It reminded me of the Sonny...

It is very high time that somebody came out and declared that this game is not nearly as bad as the gaming media has been saying it is. Why the reviews have been so nasty, who's to say. All I know is, I've been playing this game for quite some time and I have been very impressed. This game was developed by Namco, a Japanese developer, and I think the reason so many people are reacting against it is that it doesn't follow the typical Japanese fighter game style. For one, the graphics are phenomenal. This game is one of the most gorgeous PS 2 games I've ever seen. It doesn't have the "Konami look"--you know, the washed out, watered down graphics that so many Japanese adventure/fighter games have. The graphics in this game are bursting with detail and color, and the animations of both Nina and her enemies are very well done. The combat system is very innovative, employing movements of the analog sticks instead of lengthy button combos. Bravo! It's about time somebody got away from button combos. The puzzles are fun and quite involved. The only legitimate problem this game has is its camera, but it's not serious enough to warrant the extremely negative reviews it has gotten. Give Death by Degrees a try and I think you'll be impressed.

Well, I do love the ladies, but I did find it fun to kick ass with the taps, pick up guns and katanas, and bust up goons internally. It reminded me of the Sonny Chiba streetfighter movies. I played through the demo a couple times before I even realized how to use weapons! needless to say, the weapons made my ass kicking efforts more effortless. I would buy the game for $15 bucks or less, but not for 25! It does have major issues with the uselessness of blocking and evading (why put those on the same stick Namco?). Bottom line, $15 yes, anything over NO.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but...., February 22, 2005

It's a decent action game, sure, but it suffers from the (very common) problem of being very fun one moment, and then just frustrating for an equal amount of time, you grit your teeth and keep playing and then it gets good again, and so on. No PS2 game is going to impress graphically today (unless you mean impressive graphics "for a PS2 game", like MGS 3 for instance), but Nina looks OK. I think the main problem is that Nina just isn't as interesting as she could have been - neither is the "story" of the game. You keep thinking: "This could have been so much better if only...". I would recomend this only to fans of guns & girls-games.

I haven't heard of this game until last year when I went to Hong Kong. This game is fun and the story is tight. The controls aren't that great, but you can get used to them easily. This is not a button masher, you strictly use the analog to fight and control the character, but it's still fun. I haven't really gotten deep into the game yet, but from what I experienced so far, it seems decent. The intro is hella long though.

Wow.........I was really hyped up about this game, the story seemed interesting, the cinematic videos were entertaining as well. But when it came down to actually playing the game, I immediately aged by about 20 years, grey hairs and all! I kept getting beat up all the time because of bad camera angles and Nina refuses to turn around to face opponents. After a few hours of play I got more proficient at it, to the point where I was able to successfully defend myself and move on in the game. There are a lot of items to discover in order to solve your mission which can be a task just to locate. The first stage is huge and I got stuck somewhere in it, had to revert to a video walk through for assistance but I was so frustrated with the game that I didn't even bother continuing. If you have a lot of patience and you're a die hard Tekken/Nina Williams fan by all means purchase; but if you're just a casual fan like me looking for an enjoyable beat-em-up adventure I would recommend something else.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hey, I Liked it..., August 25, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Death by Degrees (Video Game)
Nina always stood out to me in the Tekken series so when I heard she got her own game I was thrilled!

DBD at first was a bit dissapointing with the lack of customizable controls and character alterations (Nina and Annas looks is far different from there Tekken apperances, Nina looked a tad sickly to me, but still hot). But other than that, I really loved the game.

After a while I got over the lack of variety in the fighting controls and was deeply enticed by the 3D settings, music, and over all super agent spy-like feel of the game. Also the critical attacks were quiet original and offered tons of way to smash your opponents skeletal structure, but even that feature is limited as it is very unrealistic (for example smashing someones skull in and moments later they are back on there feet, or robots having skeletal structures at all), and there were often times where only certain body parts could be utilized in this mode. But during boss battles (were this feature is most likely to be used) you often get more freedom to execute a large number of moves and the beauty of this feature shines.

Considering DBD is be a beat 'em up with such limited control and sometimes frustrating camera angles it does score fairly low in general standards of the genre. But strong Tekken (and Williams sisters fans) will be able to overlook the flaws and take for what Namco created it to be, a game that spotlighted Nina with digressing focus from the actual genre.

I have always loved special edition video games and this game is no exception. This game is a spin off of the character "Nina" from the Tekken series of games. It is a challenge to play, but doable. It is not too hard, which makes it fun. I really love this game, but rate it a 4 because there are others I like a bit more.

I consider myself a fan of tactical espionage. I've played through all of the PS Metal Gears (the games I consider to be the top in the genre) several times. I enjoyed Nina Williams' character in Tekken and the idea of a female lead. Ugh, I should have just avoided it. Not only are the controls poor (everything has to do with the right analog stick) but the camera changes from you being able to control it to not depending on where you are. To run you need to hold R2 but this also switches to an over-the-head view. As you enter a different section, the camera may switch back to fixed or visa versa. How are you supposed to be able to sneak up on people if you can't even control the character well? I already want to throw it away. Horrible, horrible game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost but not quite, October 1, 2008

This Tekken inspired spin-off of Nina Williams is smartly crafted with a combination of action hand2hand combat, special ops missions, & several Tenchu like bone breaking critical moves.

Aside from the VERY annoying 180-degree camera shifting you get sometimes when stepping in between camera angles (you're pointing forward and suddenly you're shifting back to the previous angle), the seemingly forever loading time this game can take (it's graphics aren't that sharp), & the less than interesting game plot. Simply put, Namco is on to something but still few enhancements are needed and with minimal improvements this game can be MUCH MUCH more.

That said, overall this game has a unique personality very well worthy to experience.
