Book Description

In spite of having to recover from serious injuries from her fall down a cliff with O'nan, Josiah Reynolds is back to sleuthing. This time her friend, Irene Meckler, asks Josiah to investigate the death of her nephew which was ruled accidental. Irene has her doubts.

Along with her best friend Matt and Jake Dosh, a physician assistant hired by Josiah's daughter, Josiah again makes the rounds of quirky characters that can only be found in the mysterious world of ante-bellum homes, bourbon, and horse racing of Kentucky's Bluegrass region.

Will Josiah discover the real reason for the death of her friend's nephew? As Josiah fights for her recovery, she fights for the truth regarding a youth and the secret as how he died. In a land where secrets are buried deep in the earth, Josiah searches in a land that doesn't let go of its past easily. The past never dies in Kentucky - the dark and bloody ground.

USA Book News - Best Book List of 2011 Finalist

Readers Favorite Gold Medal Award Winner 2011
for Best New Mystery Sleuth

From the Author

I tried to be very true to Kentucky in description of its culture, dialogue and people.  The language in the Bluegrass is a mixture of  "mountain talk" which is similar to Old English blending with a more southern dialect.  Kentucky is a border state, which has a culture unique to those states of the Old and Deep South.  The people have a certain twang to their vowels and pattern of speech.  I can recognize anyone from Kentucky as soon as they speak.

It is still very common for educated folks to use 19th century phrases and styling to express themselves.
"He commenced to hit on me."
"Where you at?"
"Much obliged."
"God bless her - she's as dumb as a fence post."
"Thank you kindly."

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Series! August 9, 2012
By Dete48
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
These are not your typical mysteries, as the characters are quite different than the usual formula. Josiah is in her fifties, and is a financially struggling divorcee that keeps bees and sells honey. That all sounds innocent enough on the surface, but she manages to get herself in some pretty sticky situations, pun intended. You really need to read this series in order, as in the first installment something happens near the end to change Josiah's life forever. If you read any of the others first it will give that away.

2.0 out of 5 stars Needs Editing September 29, 2013
By A Team
Format:Perfect Paperback
This would be hard to follow if you didn't read the first book in the series. It could have used more editing. The cliffhanger continues as a gimmick to get you to continue buying the series.

2.0 out of 5 stars fair to middling excitement May 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
These sequels cannot be picked up and read without the back story. They are confusing and seem to drift in circles. Apparently they must be read in order. Not worth the effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Death by drowning June 21, 2011
By Dfarmer
Format:Kindle Edition
I've read both Death by a Honeybee and Death by Drowning and I couldn't put them down. Both are real page turners! I particularly like the strong female characters, the fast-paced action and the way the author captures the real sense of life in the Kentucky Bluegrass.

1.0 out of 5 stars Who? What? January 2, 2014
By Dana
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
These are the questions you will be asking yourself as you backtrack through the pages, trying to see if you've missed an integral part of the story.

You have. It's the prior book.

On page 21 - When I discovered I would be experiencing constant confusion, I told myself that life is too short.

Most talented authors have the ability to flow into book Two without causing their reader such frustration over missing needed information in book One.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad March 30, 2013
By Orson
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Josiah Reynolds series are a little funky and not quite what I expected however after I finished the first book, I found myself buying the second and the third to find out what was going on in this gal's life. A pretty good series - I think I'd check into more books from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars More fun from Abigail Keam! May 17, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I read Keam's first book, Death by a Honeybee, and loved it. The characters are fun to be around, even when they're in danger of dying face-first in a bee hive, or falling off cliffs. This second book is equally delightful. Keep 'em coming, Abigail!

I didn't think this book was as good as her first one. I do like the protagonist. She is refreshingly different.
