This book is a great read. It is the tale of a commando operation, behind German lines, in North Africa during WW2. The book itself is well written and is a lot longer than many books that would deal with such a subject.
In my experience most books that could be considered historical adventure are usually short novels that seem to end before even getting started. That is not the case here. At times the book seemed a bit too long but that was actually a desire to know what was going to happen. The book itself is well written and the author knows about his subject material. This lends an authentic feel to the book. The only complaint I have is that the basic plot is fairly simple to figure out. There are enough twists and turns though to keep you guessing for a while and even the ending isn't a sure thing until you actually arrive. The book is the first in a proposed series of books about the early days of the British Special Air Service (SAS). Considering that the author was part of The Regiment it makes sense that he would know his material. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
