5.0 out of 5 stars Let me tell you..., May 15, 2007
This review is from: Death of a Hustler (Paperback)
This is probably the first book I read in 1 day. Especially because I don't always have the time to read. Rorie writes so realistically, and that is exactly how I LIKE it. Great dialogue, perfect plot and everything ties together. It is the type of story you don't want to put down because you have to find out what happens next, and you think about the characters even when you are not reading. Now that is a GOOD BOOK.

Rorie is the first prospective author I met who told me she wanted to write a book and ACTUALLY DID IT. My motto is don't talk about it, BE about it, and she was. And her book "Death of Hustler" is the hotness. Get this book today, you will not be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars (3.5 Stars) The Hustler Within, July 2, 2007
This review is from: Death of a Hustler (Paperback)
Yanique Jones is young, sexy paralegal trapped between her professional life and street life. She's also stuck in a dead end relationship with her boyfriend Beemer. But when she meets another hustler named Twiss, Beemer could be a distant memory. Beemer thinks he is invincible and puts Yanique on the back burner. Beemer is on top of the world when his friend Lite puts him on to the family business. But things become strained between them when Beemer takes an unnecessary risk that could cost them everything that they've worked for. Lite has always taken on a big brother role towards Yanique. But now he's trying to suppress some less than brotherly feelings towards her...especially now that Yanique is starting to notice.

Death of a Hustler is an exciting debut novel by Rorie. Rorie brought an interesting twist on a urban fiction tale. At first glance, this story looks like the typical girl sticking by her hustler boyfriend but it's so much more. Readers really get to see how one's childhood can really shape that person's life. You'll actually find yourself feeling sympathy for Beemer towards the end of the novel. There are some shocking developments in this story that you'll need to pay close attention to. Although this was a wonderful story, the numerous editing errors made the flow of the novel somewhat problematic. Aside from that, Death of a Hustler is still a good debut novel from Rorie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read, TERRIBLE EDITING!, April 21, 2010
This review is from: Death of a Hustler (Paperback)
This book actually has a good plot. Yanique is a faithful, good, around the way chick who dates a looser named Beamer. Yanique ends up with Lite and there's tons of juicy drama in between. It's definitely not boring, my only problem with this book was the TERRIBLE EDITING! It was sooooooooo bad! Of course most urban fictions are not gonna be 100% grammatically correct, but in this book the commas, periods, quote marks, etc were ALL over the place and misused! It made it hard to understand at some parts, like I would read a sentence and then re-do it in my head, saying ok that's what they meant. The editing was just pitiful. But besides that overall Death of a Hustler is a great read, I would recommend it.
