5.0 out of 5 stars I love it, July 25, 2005
This review is from: Death for Life (Audio CD)
Death By Stereo is one of my favorite bands, and I love this CD. It is heavier than their previous releases, and while it has a different sound it still sounds like Death By Stereo. These guys are great musicians. Efrem has a really unique voice that I love, Dan shreds on guitar (Tito did too until he quit), Tyler is a phenomenal bassist, and Todd is one of the best drummers around - speed plus accuracy. Plus, they are really nice guys who are obviously in it for the love of playing music. If you get a chance, see these guys live. They are amazing, and Efrem is a wild man on stage. They are also really easy to meet after the show and like to talk to people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Punk Rock with more than enough musical chops., June 15, 2005

The fury in the band is finally realized. The guitars are louder, the drumming more technical and the vocals more angry. The evolved sound suggests that a violent guitar hero read a Time magazine and got a conscience. The Death holds on to their original values and at the same time put out records that sound nothing like each other. I for one applaud their bravery to again put out a record that sounds nothing like the one before it. Each record is completely different and this one is no exception. I think this record will open up the musical ears of rebellious kids and at the same time make metal kids care about something more than mere shock value. Buy this now!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but...., June 10, 2005

This review is from: Death for Life (Audio CD)
It's a good album and all...It just doesn't really sound like Death By Stereo. It sounds more like they're trying way too hard to be all super hardcore and screamy. It's a little over the top. But, like I said, it's still pretty good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shows a lot of growth, June 8, 2005

This review is from: Death for Life (Audio CD)
"Death for Life" shows a lot of growth for an already impressive band. The CD is better than their last one and even "Day of Death", but I still think "If looks could kill.." is their best CD to date. It is easy to see how they've matured as musicians on this CD. Efrem's vocals have gotten better and the production values have risen. Here's a breakdown of the tracks:

1. Binge/Purge 4.5/5 Starts off the cd perfectly, with a crowd chanting "Death For Life", before they bust into a hard thrash song. There's a good solo along with great drumming and vocals.

2. I Give My Life 4.5/5 Another heavy song at about the same tempo as Binge/Purge but with a more prominent chorus. Amazing guitar and drumming. I could see this being a single.

3. Forget Regret 3.5/5 I like this song but I am waiting for it to grow on me. It's good but it isn't spectacular.

4. Entombed We Collide 5/5 Starts off great and doesn't let up. Todd rides the toms at the beginning and its pretty sick. The chorus is great. Efrem screams a lot on this song and shows a lot of range in his voice. One of the best songs on the album, hands down.

5. Forever and a Day 5/5 A ballad...interesting. It works. Great chorus. I liked the orchesta in the background and how it leads into the solo, which is amazing. This is one of the best songs Death By Stereo has written, both musically and lyrically.

6. This Curse of Days 4.5/5 A true-to-form Death by Stereo song that doesn't let up until the bridge, which leads into another great solo and a sick drum fill. The addition of the men's choir vocals in the background is pretty sweet.

7. Middle Fingers 4/5 Starts off really fast and heavy and then transitions from fast to slow. Efrem sounds downright demonic.

8. Nosotros Controlamos Todo 4.5/5 The bass/drum breakdowns are sick, especially with Efrem singing over it. Great song.

9. W.W.J.D.? 4/5 This song is very fast and has great guitar on it. Efrem's vocals sound a little weird but it goes well with the song. Another great solo with solid drumming throughout.

10. Don't Piss on My Neck and Tell Me It's Raining 5/5 The song starts off very peacefully, with string instruments playing as Efrem sings nicely over them. Oh, and then they go crazy. Haha. This song is sick. The title says it all.

11. This Is Not the End 5/5 A perfect way to close the cd. Very percussive. The ominous vocals in the background of the chorus are chilling. This is Death By Stereo in top form, taking names as usual.

Overall, I'd say this is Death By Stereo's most complete CD to date. I can't wait to see them perform this stuff live. Check them out in concert, they're touring with Rise Against (another great band) right now.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Is Not The End...., August 2, 2007

Great DBS album, probably my favorite next to If Looks Could Kill I'd Watch You Die. My favorite track on the album, and one of my favorites all together by them is "This Is Not The End". "This Curse Of Days", "WWJD?" and "Don't Piss Down My Neck And Tell Me It's Raining" are my other favs on the album.

5.0 out of 5 stars brutal, yet brutally honest, August 12, 2006
This review is from: Death for Life (Audio CD)
DBS are on of the most original bands in the harcore scene today. They are highly original and talented players as well. The vocals can take some getting used to, do to the strained barking and whiny clean vocals, but once there, they go along perfctly with the music. Thre lyrics are pissed and brutal, but they are aslo full of honesty and pain. Check em out if your tired of the same ol same ol in a now growing stagnant scene.

5.0 out of 5 stars One word: amazing, March 28, 2006
This review is from: Death for Life (Audio CD)
If you've never heard any of Death By Stereo's songs, get this cd, and prepare to be blown away.

One thing that must be noted about this band is that Efrem is the only original member remaining. They've gone through numerous line-up changes, thus their sound evolves with each cd.

I love this album, it's loaded with hard hitting riffs, killer bass, awesome drums, angry lyrics and of course Efrem's extremly unique voice.

It's hard to explain the excellence that is Death By Stereo, you'd have to experince it to understand... put simply, this is what Hardcore is all about. If you're looking for something un-original, pick up something eles.

To set the record straight, just because M. Shadows does some vocals on this album doesn't mean DBS sounds like Avenged Sevenfold... I love both bands and own every cd both have come out with, but don't mistake one for the other they sound nothing alike.

Bands like this don't come around often, so buy this cd, and let the madness begin.

5.0 out of 5 stars once it grows on you, there's no turning back, November 3, 2005
This review is from: Death for Life (Audio CD)
My friend bought this cd a while ago and when I heard it I was initially disappointed. I am a huge DBS fan (they were the band that really got me into hardcore) and this album struck me as being lighter and less aggressive, what with the ballad song (Forever and a Day) and acooustic guitars. One day recently, though, my friend put the cd into my stereo to show me some of the kickass guitar work and as I really payed attention to each song, I started to realize that I had not given this album a good enough chance. It is, infact, a really heavy and loud album despite the ballad (which, I might add, turned out to be one of my favorite songs). It is a little dfferent than their previous albums, but in a good way. The songs sound a lot more polished and Efrem does a lot more intense screaming (which is great). It seems that they have left some of the punk elements (not all, though) of their music behind and tried to give it a more metal feel. This makes the album a lot darker than their previous ones and it really works for them. One great track is "Entombed we Collide". M. Shadows of A7X sings a bit on this track and, although I don't like "City of Evil", Shadows adds some really great vocals to this already good song. Although I didn't like this album at first, it grew on me and now it is one of my favorites. So, if you really like DBS or hardcore/metal at all I say give "Death for Life" a good chance to prove how truly kickass it is.
