4.0 out of 5 stars Good, February 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Death of a Minor TV Celebrity (Audio CD)
There are some good cuts on this album. Most people will have heard the track "Feed It" because it was in the movie, and on the soundtrack, for Adam Sandler's WATERBOY. Unfortunately, that soundtrack, nor this album, sold well, and it was the Candyskins last effort at success, after 15 years or so of trying, as related in an article in "P.O.V. Magazine." At the end of that article, after their latest efforts flopped, the group members were employed as dishwashers and waiters. Such is the fine line between success and failure. And mediocrities like Mariah Carey are zillionaires. Buy this album. It's good. And you won't be making the rich richer. You'll be sending royalties to some English guys earning minimum wage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Catchy, January 15, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Death of a Minor TV Celebrity (Audio CD)
One of the most underrated bands out there -- every one of their four CDs is good. There's not a weak cut on this one. Feed It, Swimming Pool, Somewhere Over London and Songbird are highlights. Buy it -- then go searching for their out-of-print recordings -- you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally! The Skins garner airplay!!!, January 20, 2007
This review is from: Death of a Minor TV Celebrity (Audio CD)
It was a nagging question - what was that song in the new Lay's potato chips commercial? I knew I had it in my CD collection and here it is - "Feed It" the opening track off The Candyskins last album. I still loves my Brit-pop and the Skins were amongst the finest purveyors of it. This track along with "Wembly" off a previous album is guaranted to lift your spirits and get your feet tappin'

5.0 out of 5 stars This is ridiculous, March 28, 2004

Why is this album not better known? Buy it. It's worth paying the shipping and handling to spend as low as 45 cents. It rocks. It pops. It grows on you. This band is one of those that slips through the cracks somehow of mainstream and indie press and music history. Someday. Hopefully, sooner than later.
I like this one the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still great after all these years, January 3, 2008

This CD has aged very well. Its easily one of the finest Brit power pop releases ever. Amazing how many people will recognize "Feed It" though they won't recall where they heard it or who performs it. Many other songs are nearly as good. Nothing qualifies as an outright "hit the skip button" moment. Where has this band gone? A band that produces songs as good as this deserved a better fate. Its a sad commentary on the music business today that this band had no future and was essentially DOA. For fans of this genre, its amazing that you can buy this CD for 1 cents used. Buy it. Enjoy it. Its guaranteed to put a smile on your face during an otherwise dreary day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding release from these Oxford, England mates, December 17, 1998

The Candyskins-- who hail from the UK -- have put together another fantastic collection of tight harmonies and catchy lyrics. If you like the britpop sound without the arrogance and pretense of an Oasis' Gallagher, you'll love The Candyskins. Their prior U.S. release, titled "Fun!", is also a masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT!, December 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Death of a Minor TV Celebrity (Audio CD)
The Candyskins are by far the best band that no one has ever heard of. All are great musicians, great voices, great everything. A slight bit different from their previous three albums, but more powerful. They have a fun, poppy sound, but also can blow you away with the distortion pedal (check out "Somewhere Under London"). Lead guitarist Nick Burton is the master of effects, and singer Nick Cope has a uniquely incredible voice. I had the opportunity to see them play live twice this fall, in Philly and NYC, and thew were spectacular. I would highly recommend this disc. The title track, "Feed It" is on soundtrack to Adam Sandler's "Waterboy" if you need a sneak preview.

4.0 out of 5 stars good pop rock from a little known group, December 13, 1998
By A Customer

I heard "Feed It" on the radio, went out and bought this CD, and enjoyed it. A little eccentric, a little quirky, very witty, and very smooth. Fans of Ben Folds Five, Everclear, and some other groups would enjoy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Death of A Minor Great Band?, February 15, 2005

I don't know where they are now but when I bought this cd in 1998 I loved it and I still play it regularly. I always assumed they were more well-known than they turned out to be. Hopefully we will see something new from them one day.
