After 4 years, an excellent return to form!,

After a 4 year layoff, and getting signed to a new label, and even some staff turnover, turning out an album this good is a very, very pleasant surprise!
Death for Life was an excellent album, and this somehow surpasses it. The remake of Forever and a Day is just AMAZING-and normally in this genre, the inclusion of a symphony would be a death knell-but this version of the song is twice as powerful as the original and I tip my hat to the band! Keep up the good work guys, and please turn out more work. It's always a pleasure to listen to your music!

I can't stop listening to this CD. It blends all the good things from their first 4 CDs. This means you get a mix of hardcore, metal, and punk that leaves you putting the CD on repeat, trying to catch every little detail. I still prefer "Death For Life", their previous CD, because I thought it was more focused and the song writing was better, but this CD is probably tied for my second favorite with "If Looks Could Kill, I'd Watch You Die".
My favorite songs are "The Ballad of Sid Dynamite", "I Sing For You", "Wake The Dead", and "Welcome To The Party". All the songs are good though, so it's hard to put one above the other. I highly recommend this CD for anyone looking for great punk/metal/hardcore/genre bending music. Death By Stereo is a one-of-a-kind band, and I guarantee you won't be disappointed if you pick this up.

I own and enjoy all of Death by Stereo's albums, so I was very excited to pre-order this new one last year when it came out. Unfortunately I was very disappointed when I listened to it. I must admit that instantly loved If Looks Could Kill I'd Watch You Die, Day of the Death, Into the Valley of the Death, and Death Alive. Death for Life took a couple of listens to get into it, but is still rocked. Since I liked all of their other albums listened to Death Is My Only Friend several times because I wanted to give it a fair chance. I really wanted to like it but I just couldn't get into it. The sound lacked the raw energy of their previous work. I don't know if this is a case of the band mellowing as they getting older or if they were influenced by their producer/label. I continue to listen to their older albums and I hope they can bring back some of their raw, aggressive energy on their next release.
