WHICH ONE IS KIRA?,
By Sesho "www.sesho.libsyn.com" (Pasadena, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Death Note, Vol. 6 (Paperback)
Somebody in the Yotsuba corporation is killing off the company's business rivals and L, Light, and the few remaining detectives have figured out that someone in Yotsuba is Kira. The problem is figuring out who it is. If they try to move in on the group of seven suspects, then Kira might go into hiding or pass on his power to someone else. No, L MUST know how Kira kills before he is arrested. Misa is sent undercover with a coverstory that she was once suspected of being the second Kira and that she wants to meet Kira because he killed the murderer of her parents and wants to thank him. Something unexpected happens when Rem, Misa's ex-Shinigami touches her with a piece of Death Note, making her visible to Misa and reveals the truth about Light and herself as the first two Kiras and the identity of the new Kira! Now Misa will have to use all her acting skills to not upset Light's plans or reveal her newfound knowledge to L AND keep herself from getting killed at the same time!
Death Note is really starting to get good now. You'll pretty much find yourself sitting down and reading the whole book in one take and wanting more. One of the most interesting aspects of this volume and the previous one is to see Light playing the good guy, and perhaps he IS a good guy. I mean, would the killing of vicious criminals really be a bad thing? Everybody would probably have a different answer to that one, based on their own life experiences. Death Note is also great because over these six volumes you really get to know the characters because there isn't a ton of action. Most of it is characterization and mental chess playing, which is a welcome break from most Hollywood-type entertainment in this day and age. Death Note is a good read.

Kira, the Third,

This review is from: Death Note, Vol. 6 (Paperback)
Quick note, if you haven't read the previous five volumes then don't read this review, as it will spoil those volumes for you. However, if you have, then this is an entirely spoiler free review for you and by all means, read on...
The tension and suspense of Death Note only continues to deepen with this volume. Light, L, Misa, and Light's father are all working toward the same goal, and that is to catch what is seemingly a third Kira. At the center of all of this is the Totsuba group, a committee of seven men who meet regularly to discuss who must die next in order to further the Yotsuba Corporation's power in the commercial and financial world. Yet what isn't clear is who within this group is actually Kira, and Light and L must go about solving this mystery. All the while, Light, without his memories of being the previous Kira, must battle the suspicions of L, who still believes that Light is the main source of the original killings, and Light must do this while being perpetually hand-cuffed to the shoeless mastermind L. I felt that the previous volume slowed down a bit toward the end, and the same is true for the beginning of this volume. But soon into it the action picks up as the mysteries are unraveled surrounding the Yotsuba group. By the end, you'll be hungry for even one more chapter of Death Note, as it leaves you with one massive cliff-hanger. This is yet another great addition to the Death Note series and I highly recommend it to anyone who is enjoying the series to this point.

this is a very good continuation of the deathnote series containing plenty of suspense and mystery. it sets up the next book prefectly with yet another clif hanger ending that the series uses so well. i would definately recomend this book to anyone that has followed the series; if you are thinking about jumping into the sereies i would suggest starting at the first book because it would be a real spoiler to read it out of order.

Amazing Conclusion to Outstanding Series!,
By
This review is from: Death Note Black Edition, Vol. 6 (Paperback)
Reason for Reading: Next and last in the series.Amazing! Absolutely amazing! A fantastic ending to the best manga series I have read to date. Volume 11 was intense with the death of two more major characters, one I saw coming, the other totally threw me for a loop. Everything builds up for the final showdown in Volume 12, which does not disappoint. I'm not going to say anything about what happens, but reading the entire series is well worth the journey to the final volume. A stunning, satisfying ending. This whole series has been a complete joy to read. Each book is intense and it has been 5 stars all the way for me. The duel of wits and logic between Kira and L is pure pleasure for any pundit of crime deduction. Mr. Holmes would have been kept on his toes by these two and Sir Conan Doyle would have appreciated the paranormal aspect of the story as well! This series would make a good start for someone's first manga, especially if they are a crime fan, or if they are not too heavily into fantasy. However, if you already are a manga fan then this is an absolute must read series.

One of the Most Exciting Installments!,
By Lynn Ellingwood "The ESOL Teacher" (Webster, NY United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Death Note, Vol. 6 (Paperback)
This is a great installment in the Death Note series. So far Death Note is my favorite. I think it is very exciting and clever. In this book, Light has passed his memory of the Death Note to someone else. Rem, the Shigami shows herself to Misa and explains some things she has forgotten. Misa discovers who the third Kira is and helps Light try to capture him. I was absorbed in this edition from start to finish. Really enjoyed it.

This Manga is definately worth the read! It's almost identical to the anime, so if you like that, then you won't really find anything new here... but if you missed the anime, or just aren't allowed to watch it, then you should sooo get this!

A review of Death Note, vol. 6 (with spoilers),
By Bonnie Svitavsky (Puyallup, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Death Note, Vol. 6 (Paperback)
If you haven't read the previous volumes of Death Note, I'd really recommend that you do. Spoilers ahead!
A third Kira has appeared, complicating an already impossible case. L's main suspects, Light and Misa, have already been subjected to confinement and the killings have gone on without them. Light has given up the Death Note, lost his memories of his actions as Kira, and is now on the task force to find Kira, even though he's spending every minute handcuffed to L. As the task force closes in on the Yotsuba group and begins to eliminate suspects, Misa plays a vital roll in the investigation - one which leads to her learning about the Death Note, Rem, and the third Kira's identity! So the action slowed down considerably in the last volume. If you thought there was a lot of talking and speculation in previous Death Notes, you ain't seen nothing yet! L is working overtime as he tries to discover the third Kira's identity while also questioning Light and Misa and using their relationship to his advantage. Adding to this is Misa's general silliness - even trapped in L's headquarters, she's only focused on dating Light. In fact, the start of this volume is much more light-hearted (forgive the pun?) than previous ones. The drawing style, the dialogue, and the interactions between characters are brighter and somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Perhaps that's because we don't have to see Light grimacing and sneering all the time? Come to think of it, this really does show you a Light that's uncorrupted and unaffected by the Death Note. He will occasionally acknowledge that he makes the most sense as a suspect, and it makes him nervous and angry that he could be capable of such actions. Even when he's missing his memories of being Kira, I don't really like Light, but this gives us a chance to see the sort of personality the Death Note can draw out. So after all that complaining about how slow this volume is, I will say that the action picks up drastically about 3/4ths of the way through. You'll definitely want to have the next volume on hand when you finish this one!

Graphic SF Reader,

I have read the first couple, but not 3-5, so it seems this has gotten quite a bit more complicated.
There are now apparently two Death Notes around, and Light doesn't remember having one, and is actually working with L to catch yet another user of one of the Death Notes. A girl is the other user in the past, and she is also involved with the hunting down effort, as well.

Tsugumi Ohba, Death Note: Give and Take (ViZ, 2006)
With no progress happening on the case, L recruits Misa into the investigation as an undercover agent-- the consequences of which could be devastating, as we found out late in the last volume that the current Kira has Misa's old death note-- and we know how Rem feels about Misa, don't we? Interesting things are afoot, and the series is really picking up steam again. *** ½
