Morel's back...for our pleasure!,

This review is from: Death Of The Paperboy (Audio CD)
Whereas previous Morel albums, "Queen Of The Highway" (2002) and "Lucky Strike" (2005) both
explored the limits of just what electro-pop could be-bolting rock songs to muscular club tracks-"TheDeath Of The Paper Boy" marks a divergence. Morel explains, "Instead of mixing the dance elements with the rock/electronic elements, I wanted to keep the genres separate so I could explore the elements of both with out feeling the need to compromise the sound of either." "Disc-1" is the Morel album in traditional format. The companion CD, "Disc-O," contains eight Pink Noise (Richard Morel's electronic music producer alias) remixes of select songs from the album, programmed as a non-stop DJ mix. "Disc-O" also contains a bonus track, Morel's cover of David Bowie's "Sweet Thing." "Disc-O," clearly demonstrates that a great song retains its integrity, regardless of interpretation. While the album versions shimmer in a slow emotional haze of still introspection, the remixed versions are emotion in motion, crying, sweating, running off shadowboxing into the night. Morel calls it "shoegazer disco."

An underground classic,
By Roman Hans (Brooklyn, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Death Of The Paperboy (Audio CD)
Richard Morel is essential in any music lover's library. He's got that dark, deep, swirling purple sound that nobody seems to do these days. It's totally intoxicating, amyl nitrate on vinyl. On top of this he draws pictures with words -- of outcasts, of loners, of rebels -- and that's when this turns into a masterpiece.
"Death of The Paperboy" is the best Morel record so far -- and that's saying something, because Queen of the Highway and Lucky Strike are great, and holding up just as well. Disk-0 (the mix CD) is the must-have.

A double CD album, Disk 1 and the 2nd disk (Disk-O - AKA Disco mix - Pink Noise mix) is flawless, My version has no production issues and is a fluid mix that you can pop in at a party or on a long drive and enjoy. This MP3 download does not include the Pink Noise Mix so I would buy the album as its no where near complete without it. I bought this album in 2009, and i've really enjoyed listening to it. I always take it on long drives, as these songs have such great hooks you always end up finding yourself singing along. My Favorite songs of disk 1 have to be Falling of the Verge, Nova, and Anymore, Anymore. I find myself primarily listening to DISK-O. This album is rapidly turning into a lost gem, grab one while you still can!

Great Album, Bad Production makes the Pink Noise CD unlistenable.,

Great album but... the Pink Noise remix CD is plagued by shoddy production, in the form of drop-outs - the music just stops mid-stream for a second or so. The MP3 and iTunes versions have the same problem, so it just seems to have been badly produced. On the physicial CD it makes it quite unlistenable. Such a shame... I would love it if this album were released properly at some point.
