Product Description

His death began the moment we saw him. It just took a long time to consummate that death. We began to kill him when we first saw him, walking slowly up the road that led past Stud’s place, his eyes flicking away from us and shifting from bush to chimney to tree, and then flicking away from us again.
When you cross the boundaries of society, you are outside society. When you reject rules, you become unruled. When you turn your back on civilization, you become uncivilized. Each barrier you cross is a little easier. You gain a little momentum, pick up a little speed, each time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, May 26, 2010
This review is from: The Death of Patsy McCoy (Kindle Edition)
This was one of the most amazing things I've ever read. The novella is told from multiple first person perspectives. Each character who plays a role in this story gets their own chapter. Each one sounds COMPLETELY different. I read this story and I believe the whole thing. It's about what happens when we allow ourselves to become monsters and "go along" with cruelty until we become cruelty and there is no real division anymore between us and it.

The ending gave me chills. Few stories do that. This book is well worth the price it's set at. It's also very well-formated for the Kindle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a happy ending., July 7, 2010

This review is from: The Death of Patsy McCoy (Kindle Edition)
This was the perfect read to fit my mood on a gloomy, rainy day. It's no spoiler to say it's not a happy ending. The novella is told through 5 very different characters who are all entangled in the death of Patsy McCoy. Each viewpoint is well told and true to the kinds of cruelty and acquiescence that kids have when thrown together and the guilt that follows them (at least some of them) later in life.
An excellent read, definitely worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars A master of his craft, May 16, 2010
This review is from: The Death of Patsy McCoy (Kindle Edition)
With this novella, Levi Montgomery proves he's a master of his craft. The voices of his characters are fresh and honest and the story he tells resonates deeply. This is the kind of writing that creates loyal fans. I'll read anything he writes after reading this.

More About the Author

I am an author living and working in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. My wife and I have been married for nearly thirty years, and we have six children.

To get "the question" out of the way, I will answer it now: I get the ideas out of my head. The real question isn't where writers get ideas, it's what non-writers do with all of theirs.
