Good for beginners,

If you are interested in the Milkmen, but have no idea where to begin, this is the album for you. It includes songs from many of their albums, allowing the listener a taste of each development in the band's style. There is a notable era missing from this collection, that of the infamous out-of-print albums (infamous not because they are poor quality, but because the alternate label those particular albums were on quit making more copies AND they refused to relinquish the rights to the songs... what kind of nonsense is that??). Anyway, this collection will help a listener decide which albums to seek according to his or her taste. So buy it! And if you get hooked and buy them all, pass this one on. Spread it around.

I was a Milkmen fan since Big Lizard came out...blah, blah, blah (but, its true). Anyways, I picked this CD up as a quick fix for my collection as my few remaining Milkmen albums typically are on tape. Sadly, most of these tapes were also either played to death by myself or stolen/farmed out to (former)friends. This CD covers most of the highlights of their career with the exception of "those 2 albums" mentioned in the other reviews. The milkmen are wonderfully snotty and gleefully offensive and very funny in a smarter than it first sounds sort of way. Its pointless to figure out if they are thumbing their milky noses at the subjects of their songs or the (sometimes stilted) conventions of punk music itself; it is often both and that is a good and "nutritionally" healthy thing. There were a few songs that I missed not hearing on this album such as "Gorilla Girl," "Brat in the Frat," and "Beige Sunshine" just to name a few and this almost forced me to end the streak of perfect reviews. I just can't do it. If you've never heard the Milkmen, prepare yourself for a musical awakening. ONCE PROPERLY AWAKENED, go out and buy Big Lizard in my Back Yard, Beezlebubba (my personal favorite), and Metaphysical Graffitti; these three albums flesh out most of the Milkmen's career as well as provide the majority of the tracks on this CD. A final warning if you buy this CD: keep it under close eye when your "friends" come to visit, you may end up losing both.

Everything you need from the milkmen,

When the Dead Milkmen first released this album i thought that it wasn't going to capture all of the work they've done over their illustrious career. I was wrong, being a huge DM fan for a long time i knew what their best songs were and what should be on this album. I saw the track listing online a while ago and said, "wow, this is all their best songs on one cd, it looks like someone finally made a great greatest hits album!" and it's true, if you wanna get into the DM, get this one.
After listening to this, and your into the Dead Milkmen you'll want to pick up these... Big Lizard in my Backyard 85' Eat Your Paisly 86' Bucky Fellini 87' Beelzebubba 88' ... all you need from the rest of their career is on this disc.

Well, even the Beatles broke up. But the eerie coincidences don't end there. No, no, my friends. Well, chances are you just don't get it anyway. Apparently you people just didn't buy enough albums. Myabe it all started to go bad when Rodney started dating that performance artist. Or when they let Mallory sing. I don't know. Nobody does. Paul is dead. And if you play "Surfin' Cow" backwards, you'll hear the directions to a pot of buried gold. I swear to God, Stuart. Yes, and all of you mocked me when I said nothing good could ever come out of Philadelphia. Well, cheesesteaks, maybe. And soft pretzels are good. But that's not the point. The point is that the band broke up and left this greatest hits collection, so pony up the dough, but the album and lets get those royalty checks out there shall we?

coolest cd ever,

This is a great cd by the Dead Milkmen. it has a great variety of music- compare "tiny town" to "instant club hit". It starts off pretty straightforward and gets really weird after the 8th or 9th song but it's still a great album that I can listen to all day and be amused every time.
Not only does it have great music, it's really funny. get it today. best songs- bitchin camaro, the thing that only eats hippies.

This is really missing "secret of life". I mean really they could've lopped off some their numerous "hits" ahem and then the collection would be complete. They even made a vid. for that song. it's alwez missing when I listen to this and it would have added production value instead of alot of songs that sound lo-quality. faves: prg, camaro, nutrition, beach party vietnam!, thinnest line

I Will Always Love the Milkmen!,
By
This review is from: Death Rides a Pale Cow: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I have loved the Dead Milkmen since the first time a friend borrowed me "Beelzebubba" back in junior high. It was my first experience with something other than top 40 music. it blew my mind. DM have been in constant rotation in my various audio devices ever since. This collection is the best of the best of the Milkmen, with a couple extras thrown in as filler. And they are. The CD's opening track is pure filler and I can hardly listen to it without forwarding past it. The rest of the CD, with the exception of a couple of the "previously unreleased" tracks, is far more enjoyable, and a perfect way to introduce anyone to the joys of the Dead Milkmen!!

Wish I could've seen 'em live. Alas, I heard of them too late, and barely, just barely managed to get a hold of their only superior album, Not Richard but Dick. ...but if you can't find that one, you still have this one. for now...
