There isn't much to debate when it comes to Six Feet Under. These guys have been around awhile now and it's doubtful they are winning over legions of new fans. Along comes "Death Rituals" and if you like SFU then don't hesitate to pick it up. It's what you'd expect from this band although I will say the production is probably the best of any SFU record. Good stuff.

killing technique perfected,

Lets face it, these raw dogs are'nt gonna' change. But they can get better on their death and roll formula like they prove once again. You can complain about every release that comes out but its not gonna' make these dogs change their bark or bite. This batch of sick tunes were captured perfectly and the musicanship is top notch and of course the vocals are as sick as can be. Chris Barnes still entertains and Greg Gall's drumming is ultra inspired and energetic this time. More uptempo madness and less of those mid-paced grooves. You will still find some groovy moments in this bloody mess. Its sounds more focused this time around. They really perfected the killing method, New fans can start here and work their way back and feast !!

This is by far Six Feet Under's best disc. What strikes me on the recording is the music is really great. I would argue the best I've heard from this band. And of course the godfather of death metal is in top form. I like his unique approach to death metal singing and like it or not, no one else in death metal sounds like Chris Barnes. Hail.

this is the last album of Six feet under and I must say that is very,
very good.In my opinion, this is their best album in last years. It's cathy and terrific music, recomended to the people that like this kind of music.

Death Rituals is without a doubt Chris Barnes' finest production effort ever, and probably his best vocal performace. The music on this cd is brutally bludgeoning, I put it on for the first time and started headbanging. I've been listening to the band for several years, and I must say that this may exceed even my favorite SFU cd: Maximum Violence.

This is SFU's best offering. They have really improved their playing. The guitar solos are amazing! The riffs are very catchy and stay in your head for days. The vocals are deep and gutteral and fit the stomach churning lyrics quite well. I used to think the drummer in this band was quite average but his playing has improved. Basically every member improved and focused their energys into making the best album of their career. I recommend it.

I was very disappointed in this release! I'm a huge SFU fan, but Death Rituals doesn't even come close to some of their other releases like Maximum Violence ect.
The vocals are totally burried and almost muffled. As well, the punchy/catchy rifs of their past are also missing. I'm not sure what else to say........if this were the first release I'd ever heard from this band, I'd write them off immediately. I can only hope their next release will revive the mosh-worthy, teeth gnashing masterpieces from their past.

I question the necessity of a new SFU album, given the fact that they JUST released one last year. Surprisingly, the music on here is pretty strong ( probably their best since Maximum Violence) and it looks like Chris actually put some thought into the lyrics he penned this time around. The drumming is solid and the guitar is tight..but I am not overly excited about this album. Chris Barnes has really weathered vocally as he pushes 42 years old, often sounding forced ( and those stupid pig squeals have to go!). The vocals either overpower the music or get drowned out in the mix, making for an uneven production. The band does experiment a little here and there. I liked how Chris phones in a call to an answering machine under the guise of a serial killer on the intro to Shot in the head..and crossroads to armageddon has a cool, creepy vibe ( although it seems out of place on a death metal album).I loved Haunted, Maximum Violence, and even Commandment had a good flow and was catchy. Death Rituals is nothing exceptional, just good, sturdy death/thrash metal..but after several listens, I found Barnes' vocals were getting on my nerves and nothing really grabbed my attention to keep me interested for 48 minutes. A good album..but it won't be remembered as a classic.
