5.0 out of 5 stars A lot of old classic previously relased material
This is just an attempt for Suge & Death Row to keep eating off Snoop since he left and their label fell apart. However this cd is tight (it has 6 or 7 previously unreleased songs and the rest are mostly from "Doggystyle" w/ 2 from " Tha Doggfater" and one from "The Chronic"). The unreleased songs are pretty good quality and if you like Snoop they're good ones to have,...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Strange Death Row Release, June 22, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Death Row's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Do not be fooled when you read the title of this cd. It may say: Snoop Doggy Dogg's Greatest Hits, but it also says "Death Row's" Snoop Doggy Dogg's Greatest hits. Snoop was only with Death Row long enough to make two records, Doggystyle, and Tha Doggfather. Back then, Snoop Dogg had more talent and was still called Snoop Doggy Dogg. This album did not need to be released. All of the good songs on this album are from Snoop's debut-Doggystyle. Death Row also put on a song from Dr. Dre's "The Chronic", "Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang". Another strange thing about this record is that more than half the songs are unreleased. There is only one song from Tha Doggfather. Nonetheless, all of the songs from "Doggystyle", make this a good cd. Pick up "Doggystyle" instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth it If you don't own "DoggyStyle", March 18, 2004

Suge Knight strikes again. That is to make money out of his former artists. This album has 16 tracks, 8 of those are unreleased. This album is actually a good release, with these classic hits as "Gin & Juice", "Ain't No Fun", "Doggy Dogg World", "Murder Was the Case", "Who Am I". But all those songs are coming from "Doggystyle. Any Snoop fan have already heard most of the songs from this album. I will just rate the unreleased tracks.

1. Head Doctor - (4/5) by Snoop and Swoop G. This song is actually from the album "Dead Man Walking", which have all but one unreleased tracks on it. This song is pretty good. Classic Snoop.
2. Eastside Party - (4/5) by Snoop and Nate. A good song to chill to. Nate's chorus isn't as good like he usually do. Again Snoop is great here.
3. Midnight Love - (4.5/5) by Snoop, Raphael Saadiq, and Daz. Takes a while to grow on me but an excellent song. Snoop lays two excellent verses while Daz drops an excellent verse. The chorus is cool.
4. DoggFather(Remix) - (1/5) Don't even bother listening to this. I don't like Timbaland's beat.
5. EASTSIDE - (4.5/5) by Snoop, Daz, Tray Dee. Cool Song. These rappers traded excellent verses on a nice beat. Great chorus.
6. Too High (Poly High) - (4.5/5) by Snoop, Daz, and Big Pimpin'. Great song. Good song to chill to. Daz really shines on here.
7. Usual Suspects - (2/5) by Snoop and Threat. Not really feeling this. The beat is lame.
8. Keep it Real - (3/5) by Snoop, Mack 10, Bad Azz, Techniec, Threat and Kurupt. Good song. Not the best though.
9. Snoop Bounce - (1/5) by Snoop and Rage Against the Machine. The song is one of the worst I have ever heard. Get this out of here.

Overall, this a good release. If you don't own "Doggystyle", then get this one. It's definitely worth every cent to spend on it. But any true Snoop fan already heard half of the songs on the album. I suggest that you just the download the good unreleased ones (Head Doctor, Eastside Party, Midnight Love, EASTSIDE, Too High).
[!] PEACE [!]

2.0 out of 5 stars Snoop's "Greatest" Is More Of The Same From Death Row, August 21, 2003
By
Crazy Jim (Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Death Row's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
In 1993, a young rapper from Long Beach named Snoop Doggy Dogg dropped a groundbreaking debut LP called "Doggystyle". The album set many records as far as sales go and continued to thrust "gangsta rap" into the spotlight. Snoop, who had already helped Dr. Dre make one of the all-time greatest hip-hop records with "The Chronic" could not have known the impact that this record would bring to not just his career but his life. Platinum plaques, movie shorts, and murder charges followed.

Nearly a decade later, Snoop is no longer a member of Death Row Records. But that won't stop them from putting out a "Greatest Hits" compilation from their catalog. Unfortunately, they have not put forth one of their better retrospectives. Most of Snoop's pre-released work is from "Doggystyle" and a majority of the tracks on the album are either unreleased or new remixes. Only one track, "Vapors", from his sophomore album, "Tha Doggfather" is featured and the hit single, "Snoop's Upside Ya Head" from the same LP is surprisingly absent. Also missing are many of his classic collaborations with Tha Dogg Pound and one of his biggest non-Dre-related hits, his duet with 2Pac, "2 Of Amerikka's Most Wanted". Many of the unreleased tracks could have been used to beef up 2000's "Dead Man Walking" which only had twelve tracks and could have used the help. Here, a lot of the songs just don't seem to be neccessary. These aren't Snoop's most popular tracks from his days on Death Row. Only "Midnite Love" which had yet to be properly released really deserved a spot on this "Hits" project.

This Snoop record feels more like a bunch of "B-Sides" thrown together than a "best of" album. There is no need to put out almost a half-album's worth of unreleased tracks here as Snoop has had plenty of other bigger hits that were excluded. It almost seems as though they only dropped this "Greatest Hits" album to get rid of their left-over tracks. Why they couldn't put them on "Dead Man Walking" is a mystery as the album didn't run very long and the album could have used the help. All in all, if you're a die-hard Snoop Dogg fan, you will want it but there are so many classic gems that helped define Snoop's career that were left out.

5.0 out of 5 stars NUTHIN BUT A G THANG, April 11, 2003
This review is from: Death Row's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
SNOOP DOGG
DEATHROW GREATEST HITS

I like to do this track by track so hear we go.

1."Nuthin but a G Thang"-The classic cut off of Dr. Dre's "The Chronic". This classic has a fresh Snoop laying verses that made him famous. The beat is one of those few that will never be toped with its smooth feel and perfect blend of samples. Dre sounds great over this track as does Snoop who kills it.

2."Head Doctor"-This is a remade version but is bangin, Snoop comes correct on this one, as does a talented Swoop G. Kurt Kobane's excellent production on this track is outstanding and really makes this song a hit. Add in the very catchy chorus and you have all the makings of another Deathrow hit. Swoop G steals the show with his verse.

3."Gin & Juice"-This was actually the most played Snoop video to date, this video stays on count downs. Of course you all know this song and its very catchy hook, and the production on this one is flawless. Excellent track and a classic for sure.

4."Eastside Party"-At the beginning of this one you hear the great Tupac, then comes a nice hook from Nate Dogg, over all it is pretty good. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis did an excellent job with the production on this one right here. Plus Nate Dogg is the king of hooks and sounds great on this track. Snoop of course sounds great during his Deathrow days. Another excellent track added to the album, great unreleased track.

5."Murder Was the Case"-One of the greatest songs ever made. This is the remix that was on the soundtrack of the same name. The original version was on Snoop's debut album but this is the version most people know. Dre's production once again is flawless and adds so much to the storytelling of Snoop's verses. Great and classic song, excellent track.

6."Ain't no Fun"-My favorite track from "Doggystyle", Snoop does well, Nate is hot, Warren G is tight, but Kurupt rips it out of this song. Another classic from Snoop's debut album that features the greatest ever Kurupt who steals the show of course. But Snoop does his thing as does Warren g and Nate Dogg. Dre provides and excellent fun and energetic beat for this one.

7."Doggfather remix"-Timberland doesn't hit like he usually does but it is ok as far as his production on this one with Lonnie Simmons. Snoop sounds ok over this but this was not the right sound for Snoop. Probably my least favorite of the album.

8."Midnight Love"-This is the best song of the unreleased tracks. The beat by Snoop and Soopafly and verse by Daz make this a classic song, Raheal does a wonderful job on this with a haunting hook. Snoop sounds excellent on this track and the video for it is classic. Daz steals the show though with his closing verse.

9."Eastside"-This track features the original Eastsidaz over a nice LT Hutton production, Daz kicks it off with a nice verse. Snoop drops his verse next with a verse you may have heard him spit on another track. Tray Dee destroys the track next with a show stealing verse followed by Daz once again. A great addition to the album.

10."Who am I"-We all know about this one, CLASSIC. What else is there to say about the song that even your grandmother knows. Snoop sounds excellent over one of Dre's best productions.

11."Doggy Dogg World"-Another smooth ride by Tha Pound, this joint is banging for sure. The video for this one is classic and Snoop sounds great over another wonderful Dre track. Daz sounds great as well along side the great Kurupt as they steal the show once again.

12."Too High"-Another unreleased track right here with another smooth LT Hutton production, it reminds me of something but I can't think of what. Snoop starts it off with one of his best verses ever talking about his school days. The Twinz kick it off next like only they can with that G Funk sound that they are known for, I wish they would come with another album. Daz finishes off the song with another show stealer, this is another great addition to the album. Also the great Big Pimpin is on this track.

13."Vapors"-Another joint worth bumping right here as if you didn't know, this is Snoop's classic remake from Tha Doggfather album. DJ Pooh does a great job on the production and Snoop sounds flawless on this track.

14."Usal Suspects"-This joint is another banger and once again is another LT Hutton produced unreleased track. Threat starts things off over the sinister beat and sounds right at home. Snoop takes from his boy Bad Azz for the hook and then hits us with a great verse. Threat returns and drops another great verse followed by Snoop.

15."Keep it Real"-This is a east coast diss track with Snoop, Mack 10, Kurupt, Bad Azz, Techniec and Threat. Mack 10 kicks it off over this fly Soopafly instrumental taking shots at the East Coast during the infamous beef of the 90's. The excellent Bad Azz drops one of the best verses on the entire album and shows why he should be one of the highest selling ever. Techniec drops it next with an excellent verse and like Bad shows why he should get more respect and sells, love the shots at the other side. Kurupt does his thing next and of course rips it up with his lyrical mass destruction. Threat kills it next taking more shots at the East, Snoop though does not rap on this just talks and presents the other artists. One of the best on the album for sure.

16."Snoop Bounce"- I don't care what the others say, I like this joint it is a nice change in pace. Snoop, Charlie Wilson and Rage Against The Machine. Terry Date did a great job with this one, I kinda like Snoop over the rock sound.

Well that's it for now, stay up 1.

I don't know how people can be mad that Suge Knight is putting this CD out and Snoop is not getting any money off it. Suge is simply showing the potential of Snoop (which he now lacks) when he was at his finest (when he was on Death Row). All of the unreleased tracks are superb and there is no hip hop album out that compares to this one for 2001. The production is flawless. Granted, Dead Man Walking was a questionable release, this latest Death Row release of Snoop Dogg is bumpin. Suge shouldn't be hated on for releasing this album, rather we should be thankful that there is still a source of great music that still lies on the West Coast in the form of Death Row!

It was alright. Two of the unreleased songs were actually worth something. But it wasn't really needed. Mostly all of these tracks you an get on Death Row's Greatest hits! If you are thinking about getting this, or if you want to start listening to Snoop Music, get his earlier albums
