Book Description

October 1, 2007
The phenomenally successful Jack Higgins teams up with Justin Richards for another sure fire bestseller for children. A mafia banker wants to defect and give evidence against his former bosses, and John Chance's boss Ardman is handling the exchange. But when the criminals realise they might be able to exert influence on Chance by getting at his children, Rich and Jade, the twins find themselves in the firing line. With a kidnapping in Venice and a shoot-out at a private school in England, this sequel to SURE FIRE will have both young and old Jack Higgins fans hooked.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 6–9—This second in a series about twins who assist their British spy dad seems ridiculous on the face of it. However, if readers can get past the first chapter, they will be sucked in and taken on a roller-coaster ride until the somewhat fantastical ending. Jade and Rich Chance are on holiday in Venice when they must tie up the mystery of who has been following them around the city since their father helped a Swiss accountant escape from his mob employers. Back in England, their adventures continue. International crime rings, kidnapping, money laundering, a mysterious crime lord, and a remote Scottish castle all play a part in the nonstop action. The brothers must help their father figure out who the crime boss is and rescue their new math teacher before huge sums of money are lost. Amazingly, the crime syndicate always seems to be one step ahead of them. Some willing suspension of disbelief is necessary, and the protagonists seem a little younger and less gutsy than Alex Rider, but teens who are enjoying Anthony Horowitz's and Ally Carter's books will get a kick out of Jade and Rich as well.—Robin Henry, Griffin Middle School, Frisco, TX

From Booklist

Readers who enjoyed the high-speed spy action of Sure Fire (2007) will find more of the same in this helter-skelter sequel, as intrepid teenage twins Rich and Jade are pitched along with their laconic secret-agent dad into a desperate effort to protect a mild-mannered banker from international crime bosses. Thanks to frequent explosions, kidnappings, car wrecks, hails of gunfire, and breathless, spectacularly destructive chases through the streets of Venice, the classrooms of a British country school, and the stone halls of a Scottish castle, the pace never falters. The violence is a bit offhand for tales at this level, and Richards (creator of the Invisible Detectives series) and adult thriller writer Higgins don’t expend much effort on internal logic—but it’s an enjoyable romp nonetheless, with the twins repeatedly getting each other out of jams, the parental cavalry bursting in when needed, and just deserts dealt out all around in the end. Grades 5-8. --John Peters --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This review is from: Death Run (Hardcover)
This book was excellent. Well written, fast moving, and exciting. They remind me of modrn day Hardy boys and the old Bobsy Twins (since they are twins)I am 65 years old a a fan of Jack Higgins. I read it to be sure it was OK for my 12 year old granddaughter. They are definitely youth friendly. I found the entire series exciting to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is Not Death Run But An Exciting Adventure, June 13, 2009

Once Again John Chance is called away on assignment while on vacation with his children Jade and Rich. This time to protect a banker who wants to do a death run (That is start a new life) away from a ruthless crime lord called the Tiger. Don't sleep on this novel. While it's a tamer version of Jack Higgins novels. It is exciting, suspenseful and full of episonage. And if you were looking for more action than surefire you get it with this novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Book Two of the Rich and Jade Series, May 1, 2009
This review is from: Death Run (Hardcover)
Unbeknownst to Rich and Jade, their father, John Chance helps a mafia banker -called the Banker- to escape to safety. What the Banker does is he invest money other criminals give him, and he makes the criminals even more money. But Tiger, who invested all his money into savings, wants to get the keys to all the criminals' accounts. The Banker runs away to a small town. Tiger tracks the Banker to that very same town, where Rich and Jade are staying also. A mix up happens and Tiger's goons accidentally take Rich along with taking the Banker.

Tiger doesn't know, but the Banker only knows part of the codes for the accounts. The other part is etched into a diamond. Rich has the diamond though, and now he is in Tigers castle.

DEATH RUN is the second book in the Rich and Jade spy series. This book is pretty good. The only problem is that in the last book Jade got into trouble then Rich saved her, then Rich got captured and Jade saved him. The same thing happened in this book, too.
