Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

This is the landmark book in death education, providing an interdisciplinary approach to understanding death and the dying process.

Using case examples and exercises, readers can reflect upon their own experiences with death. Draws upon contributions from the humanities as well as the social and behavioral sciences, such as history, religion, philosophy, literature, and the arts. Shows how individual and societal attitudes subtly influence both how and when we die and how we live with the knowledge of death and loss. Provides a human voice by including stories of real people trying to cope with their own difficult situations.

For anyone interested in the subject of death and dying, bereavement, and mourning. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Superb Textbook!, February 17, 2001

Sandra Helene Straub (Port St. Lucie, Florida) - See all my reviews
Death, Society, and the Human Experience is a wonderful textbook! I have been using it in my class The Sociology of Death and Dying for the past four years. This book provides the information necessary to any real understanding and examination of societal assumptions and attitudes toward death and dying. It not only enhances the knowledge of the student but provides the groundwork for new readers in the field. The book is a beautiful presentation of stimulating facts that will help everyone confront death and dying in a more personal and lasting manner.
